Dallas Is Off To A Nice Start

After reaching the Stanley Cup finals in 2019/20, the Dallas Stars failed to make the postseason last year with a 23-33 record. Dallas looks to rebound from a disastrous season and they did get off to a nice start with a 3-2 road win over the Rangers in OT. Miro Heiskanen scored the game-winner in OT, while picking up the win was Anton Khudobin, who stopped all six shots he faced after relieving Braden Holtby. Holtby is listed as probable for this one, but it looks like Khudobin will bet the nod. He was 12-18 with a 2.54 GAA for the Stars last year and is 1-2 with a 1.55 GAA in three career starts against the Bruins.

The Stars had a big problem putting the puck in the net last year as they ranked 18th in the league in scoring. Dallas is hoping that a healthy Tyler Sequin will do the trick this year. He played in just three games last year after averaging 74 games per year, 31.9 goals per game, and 41.6 assists per game. Getting Jamie Benn back on track would help as well after he had just 11 goals in 52 games. He had averaged 31.1 gpg in his previous seven seasons. The Stars have a solid defense and the addition of Holtby in the crease is a big plus, but whether they make the playoffs or not will be determined with how well the offense plays.

Bruins Are Looking For A Fast Start

The Boston Bruins are hoping to get off to a nice start as this is their first game of the season. Boston has made it to the postseason five years in a row and this very well should be their sixth straight playoff berth. The biggest loss for the Bruins may be goalie Jaroslav Halak, who was 49-37 with a 2.40 GAA in three years with the Bruins. Boston Still has Tukka Rask, but he will be out until December, following hip surgery. Boston brought in Linus Ullmark, who was 50-60 with a 2.78 GAA in six years with the Sabres. The good thing here in Boston is that he actually has a defensive in front of him. Jeremy Swayman is their other goalie right now and he will get the start in this one.

Swayman was 7-3 with a 1.50 GAA in 10 starts for the Bruins last year. Boston is grooming him to eventually take the number one job on the team, even when Rask is back. Boston has added Nick Foligno and Erik Haula for some scoring depth, but the two combined for just 16 goals last year. Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, Taylor Hall, and Brad Marchand are the leaders of the offense, but if they go through some offensive struggles, the Bruins could be in trouble as they do not have a lot of quality scoring depth. Boston could be relying on their defense more than not this season. Still, this is one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference and they will be a factor come playoff time.

Insiders Status:

The Boston Bruins have been bounced in the 2nd round of the playoffs in each of the last two years and that will have them motivated as we start this season. they do not have Tukka Rask in the crease to start the year, but Jeremy Swayman looked awfully good last year and he will be taking on a Dallas offense that is still trying to find itself. The Stars are off of a nice road win over the Rangers, but New York is not expected to do much and Boston does know what to expect from Khudobin in the crease as he was once on their team. the Boston offense is healthy at the moment and they will do enough damage at that end of the ice to pull out a nice game one win. Lastly, the Stars are 8-22 in their last 30 games as an underdog while the Bruins are 38-15 in their last 53 vs. the Western Conference.

Prediction: Boston -163

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The Dallas Stars scored just three goals in their first game and they needed OT to do it. Dallas should have a better offense than last year, especially if Tyler Sequin stays healthy, but it will also take some time for them to get rolling. I do not see it in this game as they are facing Jeremy Swayman, who had a 1.50 GAA in 10 starts last year. He is the future for Boston in the crease. The Boston offense has four good players, but they lack scoring depth and will need their defense and goaltending to bail them out on most nights. Anton Khudobin has a 1.55 GAA against the Bruins in his career, so the Boston offense will not go off on him here. Lastly, the Under is 12-4-5 in Dallas's last 21 games as a road underdog and 6-1-1 in Boston's last 8 vs. a team with a winning % above .600, plus 6-1 in the last seven meetings between these teams.

Prediction: Under 5.5
