Sabres Look To Continue Their Winning WaysSo far this season, the Buffalo Sabres have looked like one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. This comes as a surprise considering the fact that the Sabres have not made the playoffs in a decent period of time. Specifically, the Sabres have only lost one game in regulation and have won five of their first seven games. Now, Buffalo has to play on the second straight night so one has to wonder just how tired its roster will be on such a short turnaround. However, Buffalo is still the much more talented team in this game so perhaps that alone will be enough for the Sabres to win this game.
Leading the Sabres offensively is centerJack Eichel who has been great this season. Specifically, he has four goals and six assists through Buffalo's first seven games. Eichel also has six of his points on the power play so he is also a great asset on Buffalo's special teams. With Quick in net for the Kings, Eichel should be able to add to his point total with a solid outing on Thursday night.
The starting goalie for the Sabres in this game will be Carter Hutton who has looked great so far this season. Specifically, he has a 4-0-0 record with a 1.74 GAA and a .931 save percentage. Interestingly, Hutton has not faced the Kings since the 2017-2018 season in a game that resulted in a regulation loss. Now, Hutton will look to remain undefeated this season by beating the Kings on Thursday.
Kings Look To End Current Losing StreakSo far this season, the Los Angeles Kings have looked very underwhelming. Specifically, they are just 2-4-0 through the first six games. In addition, the Kings are also in the midst of a two-game losing streak after losing to the Hurricanes at home on Tuesday night by the score of 2-0. Now, Los Angeles gets to play another home game against an Eastern Conference opponent. Even though the Kings were expected to finish the season well out of a playoff spot, stopping this losing streak as quickly as possible will be crucial for them to potentially turn their season around.
Leading the Kings offensively will be centerAnze Kopitar who has looked great so far this season. Specifically, he already has eight points through the first six games of the regular season. In addition, he has a Plus/Minute Rating of zero which is impressive considering the fact that the Kings have been outscored by eight goals this season. Kopitar will eventually have his jersey retired by Los Angeles but he will continue to be the leader of the Kings for as long as he wants to.
The starting goalie for the Kings in this game will be Jonathan Quick who has been terrible this season. Specifically, he has an 0-3-0 record along with a 6.43 GAA and a .793 save percentage. Quick used to be one of the best goalies in the league but it appears that he is nowhere near the goalie that he was several seasons ago. Last season, Quick went 0-1-0 with a 4.34 GAA and a .840 save percentage against the Sabres.
- Sabres are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. the Western Conference.
- Sabres are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a losing record.
- Kings are 10-24 in their last 34 overall.
