Tuesday evening pucks and a pair of teams from the Central Division will square off as the Colorado Avalanche grapple with the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Avs took three of the five meetings between these teams last year. Colorado enters this game at 10-7 on the year while the Jets are currently sitting at 10-8.
Avs Have Their Offense Back On TrackColorado has one of the best offenses in the league but it had been struggling recently. Not anymore, as the Avs have scored 13 goals in their last two games. That is after scoring a total of seven goals in their previous five games. The offense is clearly back on track, but can they keep it rolling against Connor Hellebuyck, who has been very stingy at home so far? We shall see. The Avs have had a solid start to their season overall as they have gone 10-7 so far and that puts them in 2nd place in the Central Division, just five points behind the Blues. The Avs enter this game off a 4-2 home win over the Blue Jackets and scoring in the win was Samuel Girard, which was his 1st of the year, Cale Makar, who scored twice and now has four on the year and Nazem Kadri, which was his 6th.
Grabbing the win against the Blue Jackets was Pavel Francouz, who stopped 39 of the 41 shots that he faced to improve to 4-2 with a 2.82 GAA on the year while out on the road he has gone 1-1 with a 2.51 GAA. He has never faced the Jets in his brief career. The Avs enter this game ranked 3rd in the league in scoring, putting up 3.65 gpg and 11th in goals allowed, giving up 2.88 gpg.
Jets Rally To Take Down The StarsThe Winnipeg Jets have had a good start to their year as they enter this game at 10-8 overall and that puts them in 4th place in the Central Division. After a 4-2 start, the Jets went on to lose five of their next seven but they have gotten back on track with wins in four of their last five. The Jets have been a solid offensive team the last few years but that has not been the case this year. Winnipeg sis average 3.60 gpg over their first five games but they have responded by averaging just 2.38 gpg over their last 13 games. They have not scored more than four goals in a game in their last 13 games. The Jets are off a nice 3-2 OT win against the Stars, in which they trailed 2-1 after two periods. Andrew Copp notched his 3rd of the year early in the 3rd to tie the game and then Mark Scheifele scored his 7th of the year just 21 seconds into the OT frame to win it. Patrik Laine also scored in the contest and it was his 4th of the year.
Snatching up the win against the Stars was Connor Hellebuyck, who stopped 26 of the 28 shots that he faced to improve to 8-6 with a 2.28 GAA on the year, including 5-4 with a 1.75 GAA here at home. In his career, he has gone 77-44 with a 2.55 GAA here at the Bell MTS Place and 24-14 with a 2.56 GAA during the month of November, plus 6-6 with a 2.57 GAA against the Avs.Winnipeg comes in ranked 22nd in scoring at 2.72 gpg and 15th in goals allowed at 2.94 gpg.
