The Atlantic Division meets the Central Division this evening as the Boston Bruins duke it out with the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The Bruins enter this game off a 6-3 road loss to the Avs, while the Stars are off a 2-1 home loss to the Blue Jackets. The Bruins won 2-1 in OT at home in the first meeting.
3rd Period Meltdown Dooms Bruins Against The Avs
The Boston Bruins come in off a tough 6-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. The Bruins had the game in hand as they led 3-1 early in the 2nd period but Jaroslav Halak allowed five goals the rest of the way and it ended up being a tough loss for the Bruins. Halak is now 6-4 with a 2.16 GAA on the year. Tuukka Rask will be back in the crease for this one and he has gone 4-4 with a 3.05 GAA and a .901 save percentage on the year, including 1-2 with a 4.11 GAA and a .884 save percentage on the road. In his career, he has gone 7-3 with a 2.15 GAA against the Stars.

The Bruins have been a bit inconsistent of late as they have lost six of their last seven games to drop into a 4th place tie in the Atlantic Division with the Buffalo Sabres. Scoring in the loss to the Avs was David Pastrnak, which was his league-leading 17th of the year and Jake DeBrusk, who scored twice and now has seven on the year. Boston comes in ranked 16th in scoring, putting up 3.11 gpg and 3rd in goals allowed at 2.61 gpg.
Stars Lose To The Jackets Again
The Dallas Stars come into this game struggling as they have lost four of their last five games. They have scored a total of 11 goals in those five games. Two of their losses over that stretch were to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The game was tied at 1-1 with the teams heading to the 3rd period where the Jackets scored midway through it to go ahead for good. Scoring their lone goal in the game was Alexander Radulov, which was his 6th of the year. Dallas is now at 9-9 on the year and in 5th place in the tough Central Division.

Absorbing the loss against the Blue Jackets was Anton Khudobin, who allowed two goals on 28 shot attempts to fall to 3-3 with a 2.32 GAA on the year. Ben Bishop will patrol the crease for the Stars in this one and he has gone 6-6 with a 2.61 GAA and a .915 save percentage on the year, including 4-3 with a 2.57 GAA and a .918 save percentage here at home. In his career, he has gone 4-9 with a 2.82 GAA against the Bruins. The Stars enter this contest ranked 23rd in scoring, putting up 2.83 gpg and 8th in goals allowed at 2.78 gpg.
- 4-1 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game
- 230-108-25 in their last 363 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400
- 2-7 in their last 9 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game
- 1-5 in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will side with the Stars in this one. They have struggled of late, but they still play well at home and Ben Bishop has played well at home in his career. The Bruins have also struggled some of late as they have lost seven of their last 13 games. Tuukka Rask has struggled on the road and the Bruins have gone 5-14 in their last nine games away from home. Look for the Stars to grab a nice win in this one.
Prediction: Dallas -115
Full-Game Total Pick
Let’s look for this game to go Under the total. The Stars have scored just 11 goals in their last five games and Rask has a 2.15 GAA in his career against the Stars. Ben Bishop has a decent 2.57 GAA at home for the Year and the Boston offense has been inconsistent. The Under is 9-2-1 in Boston’s last 12 games overall and 7-1-1 in Dallas’ last nine vs. the Eastern Conference, plus 4-0 the last four games in this series.
Prediction: Under 5.5
Half-Time Side Pick
I look for the Stars to come out with a nice first period in this one. They play very well at home, especially with Ben Bishop in the crease and that should pay early dividends for them. Take the Stars early.
Prediction: Dallas -105 (First Period)
Half-Time Total Bet
Both teams have not been great on offense this year and there is some solid goaltending in the crease. This is a big interconference game for both teams and that should lead to a sluggish start. Dallas 1-0 after one.
Prediction: Under 1.5 (First Period)
