The Pacific Division meets the Central Division this evening as the Los Angeles Kings battle it out with the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The Kings check in off a 5-1 home loss to the Maple Leafs, while the Blackhawks are off a 1-0 home win over the Blues. The Kings won two of the three meetings between these teams last year.
It Has Been A Bad Start For The Kings
The Los Angeles Kings did not have the start they were hoping for and it has been getting worse. They enter this game off a 5-1 home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and it was their 3rd loss in a row to fall to 5-12 on the year. That is the worst record in the league and their 11 points are the lowest in the league. They can’t seem to get their act together in the early part of the season, but they are hoping to get things turned around with a win over a struggling Chicago team. The offense has been a mess overall this year and they come in having scored just two total goals in their last three games. Scoring in the loss to the Maple Leafs was Adrian Kempe, which was his 2nd of the year.
Time to turn things around.

Absorbing the loss against the Maple Leafs was Peter Budaj, who allowed four goals on 19 shot attempts in his first start of the year. He was taken out after the 4th goal allowed in favor of Calvin Petersen, who allowed one goal on 16 shot attempts the rest of the way. Budaj will get the nod in this one and he has gone 5-8 with a 2.82 GAA against the Blackhawks in his career. The Kings enter this game ranked last in the league in scoring, putting up 2.00 gpg and 21st in goals allowed, giving up 3.24 gpg.
Blackhawks End Skid With Shutout Of Blues
The Chicago Blackhawks have been struggling and they went into their game with the Blues riding an eight-game losing streak, but they were able to break the skid with a 1-0 win. Corey Crawford lost five of those games during the losing streak and he allowed 21 goals in those games, but he stepped up with a huge effort against the Blues. Crawford stopped all 28 shots that he faced for his 24th career shutout. He is now at 4-6 with a 2.76 GAA and a .911 save percentage on the year, including 3-2 with a 1.83 GAA and a .934 save percentage here at home. In his career, he has gone 9-6 with a 2.65 GAA against the Kings.

The offense continues to be an issue for the Blackhawks., Yes they won the game, but they also scored just one goal in the contest. That goal came from Brent Seabrook at the 4:05 mark of the 2nd period. It was his 4th of the year. Chicago has now scored a total of 12 goals over their last eight games. They need to find their offense or this will continue to be a long season for this proud franchise. The Blackhawks enter this game ranked 26th in the league in scoring, putting up 2.74 gpg, while ranking 30th in goals allowed, giving up 3.53 gpg.
- 66-23 in their last 89 vs. a team with a winning % below .400
- 75-35 in their last 110 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400
Los Angeles is:
- 1-6 in their last 7 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game
- 1-11 in their last 12 vs. the Western Conference
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I have to go with the Blackhawks in this battle of two of the worst teams in the league. The Kings have scored a total of two goals in their last three games and they have gone just 1-5 on the road so far. The Blackhawks have not been much better on offense of late, but they still have the edge at that end of the ice and they are 17-8 in their last 25 home games in this series. Take Chicago in this one.
Prediction: Chicago -150
Full-Game Total Pick
How can you look anywhere else but the Under in this game? The Kings have the worst offense in the league and the Blackhawks have scored a total of 12 goals over their last eight games. The Under is 9-1-1 in Los Angeles’ last 11 vs. Western Conference and 25-10-8 in Kings last 43 following a home loss of three or more goals, plus 15-5-1 in Chicago’s last 21 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 4-1-3 the last eight games in this series.
Prediction: Under 5.5
Half-Time Side Pick
The Kings are a bad team at the moment and the Blackhawks are off a nice win over the Blues. That should give them the confidence needed to get out to the early lead in this one. Take Chicago in the first period of this one.
Prediction: Chicago -133 (First Period)
Half-Time Total Bet
Neither team can score at the moment and we may not see the first goal in this one until the 3rd period. Chicago has scored just 0.80 gpg in the first over their last 10 games, while the Kings have put up just 0.5 gpg in the first over their last 10 games. Look for a sluggish start to this one.
Prediction: Under 1.5 (First Period)
