This Saturday, there is a matchup between two Western Conference teams as the Detroit Red Wings and the San Jose Sharks will face off at about 10:30 PM. This will be the first meeting between these teams this season and it will take place at the SAP Center.

Goalie Matchup: The Red Wings will turn to Jimmy Howard (2-8-0, 3.99 GAA) and the Sharks will counter with Martin Jones (7-7-1, 3.26 GAA).

Detroit Looks For Bounce Back Win

So far this season, the Detroit Red Wings have been one of the worst teams in the Western Conference. After a fast start, the Red Wings have plummeted back to earth as they have lost 12 of their first 21 games in regulation. As a result, they are currently in second-to-last place in the Atlantic Division with just a one point cushion over the Senators. Detroit had won each of its last three games before losing a tough game against Los Angeles in overtime on Thursday. Now, Detroit will look to bounce back on the road despite having a pathetic 3-7-1 record away from home. Detroit could definitely use the win if it plans on turning its season around even though there is a high probability that the Red Wings will finish the season in the basement.

Leading the Red Wings offensively will be right-wingerAnthony Mantha who has looked great so far this season. He already has 21 points in 21 games. In addition, he also comes into this game in great form as he has recorded at least a point in each of his last five games. Now, Mantha will look to extend that personal streak on the road against a conference foe.

The starting goalie for the Red Wings in this game will be Jimmy Howard who has been awful so far this season. He has a 2-8-0 record and a 3.99 GAA along with a .887 save percentage. At the age of 35, it appears that Howard's career in the pros is virtually over. However, he will look to show the Red Wings that he potentially has something left in the tank on Saturday.

San Jose Looks To Extend Its Winning Streak

So far this season, the San Jose Sharks have been a huge disappointment in the Western Conference. The Sharks have a 9-10-1 record which is bad enough to have them in at the bottom of the Pacific Division. San Jose is seventh in a division with only eight teams. However, the Sharks have started to turn their season around as they enter this game in great form. San Jose has won each of its last five games and it has the opportunity to extend that streak on Saturday. In addition, a victory in this game would help the Sharks move up in the Pacific Division standings as they will look to get back into the hunt for a playoff spot.

Leading the Sharks offensively is center Tomas Hertl who has looked decent so far this season. He already has 21 points through the first 20 games of the regular season. However, he has been terrible in even strength as he has a -6 Plus/Minus Rating. Hertl has been a key contributor for this organization for several years and he will look to help lead San Jose to another victory.

The starting goalie for the Sharks in this game will be Martin Jones who has been underwhelming so far this season. He has a 7-7-1 record with a 3.26 GAA and a .888 save percentage. Jones has started every game during this five-game winning streak as he has started to play better on a more consistent basis. Now, he will look for another home victory against one of the worst teams in the league on Saturday.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

San Jose enters this game in the midst of a five-game winning streak so I cannot go against the Sharks on Saturday. After an extremely slow start to the season, it appears that San Jose is finally starting to piece it together which is scary for the rest of the Western Conference. I expect the Sharks to dominate this game from start to finish as they simply have the better players in this matchup. This game might be close for a little while but I think San Jose will end up winning this game by a few goals. Give me the home team.

Prediction: San Jose

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Based on the goalies in net, I have to take the over. Both teams have struggled with their goalies all season long as they have given up a ton of goals and I expect that trend to continue on Saturday. Plus, both teams possess enough offensive weapons to create a lot of scoring chances against each other's porous defenses so I think this total is too low. This game should end somewhere in the realm of 5-3 so I think that this total is questionable to say the least. If both teams create as many opportunities as they should, then this game should fly over the posted total.

Prediction: Over

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

San Jose enters this game in great form while Detroit enters this game off a tough overtime loss so I think that the Sharks will come out with more energy over the first 20 minutes. Plus, San Jose has actually been solid at home despite its underwhelming overall record so I think that the Sharks will use the energy of the crowd to get out to an early lead in this game. Plus, San Jose has the significantly better roster so I think it will be able to generate a lot of offensive chances against Detroit early on. Give me the home team as a result.

Prediction: San Jose 1P
