Carolina Hurricanes (10-6-4) vs. Boston Bruins (17-3-0)
The 2022-23 NHL betting action continues Friday with this Eastern Conference battle when the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Bruins enter this contest red-hot, going 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. The team saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end when they lost to Florida on Wednesday, 5-2. Carolina lost to Arizona on Wednesday, 4-0, their fourth straight loss (0-3-1). The teams have not met this season, but had an epic playoff battle last season that saw Carolina win in seven.
Hurricanes Blanked by CoyotesThe Carolina Hurricanes (10-6-4, 7-13 ATS) were shut out by the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday, 4-0. This was a close contest for about 42 minutes, with Arizona clinging to a 1-0 lead. However, Pyotr Kochetkov gave him three goals in the final frame, finishing with 23 saves in the loss. The Hurricanes enter this contest 6-3-3 on the road.
“At some point we've got to have some emotion and get going and really start pushing each other," Carolina captain Jordan Staal said. "Something's got to change. We kind of felt like the puck wasn't going in, and we kind of just slowly faded away."
Carolina has struggled offensively during the recent four-game winless streak, producing six total goals. In fact, the club has been shutout twice in their last nine games, scoring 18 goals in that span, and seven came in one contest. The club is 27th in goals per game (2.70) and 10th in goals allowed per game (2.80).
Bruins Fall in FloridaThe Boston Bruins (17-3-0, 16-4 ATS) saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end when they fell to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday, 5-2. Boston has been red hot this month, going 9-2-0. They return home where the club is undefeated (11-0-0). David Pastrnak scored his 13th goal of the season for Boston.
"We were pretty dominant in the first," Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. "And then the second, the other part of our game that needs to be better is turnovers. We made too many turnovers at the offensive blue line that didn't allow us to get to our game."

The Bruins scored two power-play goals in the victory and are now third in power-play efficiency of 30.3%. However, they also gave up three power-play goals in the loss. That was a surprising stat, as the team is second in penalty-killing efficiency (85.7%). It is not surprising that Boston has the top record in the NHL, as they are first in goals scored per game (4.05) and in goals allowed per contest (2.25).

It is hard to go against a team that is undefeated at home this season, and Boston has shown no signs of slowing up. The Bruins have completely shut down opponents at TD Garden this month, allowing a single goal in four of their five home contests and have allowed six total goals in five games. That is just ridiculous and is a primary reason why opponents have no chance of winning in Boston. In fact, the team has won all five of their games by at least two goals.
Carolina enters this contest slumping. They are winless in their last four, producing six total goals in that span. That is not a good combination against the Boston team that is shutting opponents down while lighting up opposing goaltenders. Boston’s 16-4-0 ATS the season, meaning they are not just winning but covering the spread as well.
Full-Game Total Pick
Boston allowed eight total goals in the recent two-game road trip, but this came after allowing two or fewer goals in eight straight games, allowing a total of 10 total goals in those six contests. This is a very good defensive team, and they are returning to Boston where they have allowed two or fewer goals in seven straight games.
Carolina is struggling, but they are not being blown out. They have given up four goals in each of their last two games, but have allowed 13 total goals over their last five contests. In addition, Carolina has gone under in five of their last six games.
