Pittsburgh Penguins (9-6-4) vs. New York Islanders (5-9-2)

The New York Islanders are still winless in their brand-new USB Arena and will try to break out of their slump Friday, November 26, 2021, when the in-form Pittsburgh Penguins come to town. According to MyBookie Sportsbook, the Islanders are +123 moneyline underdogs, while the totals are listed at 5.5 goals.

New York meets Pittsburgh for the first time this season. It’s a rematch of the 2021 Stanley Cup First Round that the Islanders won in six games.

The Penguins eye their fifth straight win

The Pittsburgh Penguins (9-6-4) are riding a four-game winning streak following a 4-1 home victory to the Vancouver Canucks this past Wednesday. After three straight road wins over Montreal 6-0, Toronto, 2-0, and Winnipeg 3-1, the Pens outplayed the lowly Canucks, while Tristan Jarry had another excellent game between the pipes.

Through the first six weeks of the season, the Penguins have struggled with injuries and COVID-19 issues. They are finally healthy, though Evgeni Malkin is still recovering from knee surgery, the rest of the pack looks ready to roll.

Pittsburgh is scoring 3.00 goals per game (14th in the NHL) on an 8.4 shooting percentage (24th) while yielding 2.63 goals in a return (7th). Tristan Jarry is expected to guard the cage Friday at USB Arena, and he’s 9-4-3 with a 2.03 GAA and a .933 save percentage this season.

The Islanders lost seven in a row

The New York Islanders (5-9-2) are on a seven-game losing streak following a 4-1 home defeat to the New York Rangers last Wednesday. They continue to struggle both on and off the ice, as the Islanders have ten guys on the shelf due to COVID-19 and injuries, including five defensemen and four wingers.

The Islanders have opened the 2021-22 season with a ridiculous 13-game road trip. Before that painful defeat to the Rangers, the Islanders have dropped two straight home contests to Calgary 5-2 and Toronto 3-0.

During their awful streak, the Islanders have scored only seven goals while surrendering 32 in a return. They own the second-lowest scoring offense in the league, averaging 2.00 goals per contest. On the other side of the ice, New York is yielding 3.13 goals per game (22nd in the NHL).

It’s still unknown who’ll guard the cage Friday against the Pens. Ilya Sorokin is 5-5-2 with a 2.54 GAA and a .925 save percentage, while Semyon Varlamov is 0-4-0 with a 3.46 GAA and a .881 save percentage.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

While the Penguins are building up their form, the Islanders are falling apart due to both COVID-19 and injury problems. Hereof, Pittsburgh should be a slam dunk, as New York cannot count on some key players and is quite short-handed at the back.

The Penguins have played very well on both sides of the ice over their last four games, recording a couple of shutouts in the process. The short-handed Islanders will have a mountain to climb, while the Pens will be fired up to get revenge for that playoff loss last postseason.

Prediction: Take Pittsburgh Penguins at -136

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Four of the Penguins’ last five games produced five or fewer goals in total. On the other side, two of New York’s previous six contests saw more than five goals on the scoreboard, so we shouldn’t expect to see a bunch of goals Friday at USB Arena.

The Islanders miss five defensemen, but they’ll certainly try to slow down things as much as possible. New York’s previous game against the Rangers saw only 42 shots in total.

Prediction: Go under 5.5 goals at -118
