We have a non-Conference matchup between the Calgary Flames and the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday evening at PNC Arena. The Flames are fourth in the Pacific Division (9-8-3, 21 points) while the Hurricanes are fourth in the Metropolitan Division (10-6-5, 25 points) and both teams are on the second leg of a back-to-back. This will also be their second and final game against one another in the regular season as the Flames picked up a 3-2 overtime home win back on October 22.

Can the Offense Wake Up?

The Calgary Flames have been playing extremely well, but are coming off a 3-0 road loss against the Washington Capitals last time out. Center Nazim Kadri led the team as he was able to finish with five shots. As a team, they scored zero goals on 32 shots, despite winning 50 percent of their faceoffs. They were also 0-for-2 on power play attempts. Defensively, they did a decent job as they allowed one goal on two power play opportunities. Jacob Markstrom had a decent game as he gave up three goals on 25 shot attempts so he needs to continue playing well.

This offense has been stagnant this season as they are 20th in the NHL with 59 goals scored thus far. They have a bunch of players stepping up, including center Elias Lindholm as he has 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) to begin the season and is dominant on the ice. Defensively, they are average as they are 15th in the league with 62 goals conceded as well. They have a great overall roster that is buying in together so they need to continue playing as a unit and they will be in a great spot.

Carolina Needs A Win

The Carolina Hurricanes have been playing extremely well, but are coming off a 3-2 overtime road loss against the Boston Bruins last time out. Right winger Stefan Noesen led the team as he was able to finish with a goal on three shots. As a team, they scored a pair of goals on 36 shots, despite winning only 42.9 percent of their faceoffs. They were also 2-for-6 on power play attempts. Defensively, they did a decent job as they allowed one goal on six power play opportunities. Pyotr Kochetkov had a decent game as he gave up three goals on 41 shot attempts so he needs to continue lowering the goals allowed.

This offense has been struggling this season as they are 23rd in the NHL with 56 goals scored thus far. They have players stepping up, including center Sebastian Aho as he has 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) to begin the season and is dominant on the ice. Defensively, they are holding their own as they are 10th in the league with 56 goals conceded as well. They have a solid defense that can definitely keep them in games.

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The defense is going to be the difference maker in this game as Calgary is allowing 3.21 goals per game while Carolina is giving up 2.80 goals per game up to this point. Sebastian Aho is the best player on the ice for either team so he should be able to lead the Flames to a victory. The favorite has hit in five of their last seven games so go with the Carolina Hurricanes to win here.

Prediction: Carolina Hurricanes -142

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

Dan Vladar and Antti Raanta will be inside of the net and they are doing incredibly well throughout the course of the season. Both teams have been doing well in terms of penalty kill percentage as the Flames are killing 81.7 percent of penalties while the Hurricanes are killing 79.7 percent of penalties. The under has hit in eight of the previous 10 games against each other so go with UNDER 6.5 GOALS in this game as well.

Prediction: UNDER 6.5
