We have a non-conference matchup between the St. Louis Blues and the Florida Panthers on Thursday evening at the FLA Live Arena. The Blues are fourth in the Central Division (10-9-0, 20 points) and are on the second leg of a back-to-back against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Panthers are sixth in the Atlantic Division (10-8-2, 22 points) and are coming off a 5-2 home win over the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.

I’m Blue

The St. Louis Blues have been playing extremely well and are coming off a 6-2 road loss against the Montreal Canadiens last time out. Left winger Pavel Buchnevich led the team as he was able to finish with a goal in the game. As a team, they scored 2 goals on 36 shots, despite winning just 46.2 percent of their faceoffs. They were also 1-for-3 on power play attempts. Defensively, they struggled as they gave up 2 goals on 3 power play opportunities. Jordan Binnington had a terrible game as he gave up 6 goals on 32 shot attempts so he needs to bounce back next time he’s out there.

This offense has been below average to begin the season as they are 25th in the NHL with 55 goals scored thus far. They have a bunch of players stepping up, including center Brenden Schenn as he has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) to begin the season and is dominant on the ice. Defensively, they are average as they are 17th in the league with 65 goals conceded as well. They have a great overall roster that is buying in together so they need to continue playing as a unit and they will be in a great spot.

Florida needs to get going

The Florida Panthers have been playing extremely well and are coming off a 5-2 home victory against the Boston Bruins last time out. Center Aleksander.Barkov led the team as he was able to finish with a goal and two assists in the game. As a team, they scored 2 goals on 36 shots, despite winning just 41.3 percent of their faceoffs. They were also 2-for-6 on power play attempts. Defensively, they struggled as they gave up 3 goals on 7 power play opportunities. Spencer had a terrific game as he gave up 2 goals on 39  shot attempts so he needs to bounce back next time he’s out there.

This offense has been doing well to begin the season as they are ninth in the NHL with 69 goals scored thus far. They have a bunch of players stepping up, including left winger Matthew Tkachuk as he has 27 points (9 goals, 18 assists) to begin the season and is dominant on the ice. Defensively, they are average as they are 21st in the league with 66 goals conceded as well. They have a great overall roster that is buying in together so they need to continue playing as a unit and they will be in a great spot.

Insiders Status:

Rating:

There is definitely a difference in the offensive production this season as St. Louis is scoring 2.84 goals while Florida is averaging 3.4 goals m thus far. Thomas Greiss and Spencer Knight are going to be in the net and obviously  Knight is the better player on the ice at the position and should dominate in this game. All in all, go with the Florida Panthers to cover the puck line at home.

Prediction: Florida Panthers -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

These defenses are not good and should be able to score the puck well. Both teams are doing well in terms of power play percentage as St Louis is scoring on 23.5 percent of power plays while Florida is scoring on 20.3 percent of power plays up to this point. The over has hit in six of their last eight games against one another so go with OVER 6 GOALS here as well.

Prediction: OVER 6
