National Hockey League action on Saturday evening and we will see a pair of teams from the Central Division square off as the Dallas Stars grapple with the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The Stars enter this contest at 9-9 on the year, while the Coyotes come in at 4-16 so far.

Stars Take Down The Avalanche

After a 4-8 start to the year, the Dallas stars have turned things around as they enter this game having won five of their last six games. That puts them at 9-9 on the year, but still, they are in 6th place in thye Central Division and seven points out of first. Dallas would like to keep it going against one of the worst teams in the league in this one. The Stars come in off of a hard-fought 3-1 home win over the Avs last night, which was their 3rd win in a row and they have outscored those foes 11-3 in the process. Dallas led 2-0 just 1;31 into the game and they never looked back. Scoring in the win was Joe Pavelski, who scored twice and now has four on the year and 400 for his career, and Denis Gurianov, which was his 3rd of the young season.

Dallas is 22nd in scoring at 2.72 gpg and 17th in goals allowed at 2.89 gpg.Snatching up the win was Jake Oettinger, who stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced to move to 3-0 on the year with a 1.29 GAA. He did leave the game for the latter part of the 2nd period after getting hit in the head and was replaced by Braden Holtby, who stopped all four shots he faced. Oettinger returned for the final period. Holtby is 2-5 with a 2.54 GAA on the year, but we should see Anton Khudobin get the start and he is 3-4 with a 3.73 GAA on the year, including 2-3 with a 4.35 GAA on the road. Khudobin is 2-2 with a 3.26 GAA against the Coyotes in his career.

The Coyotes Have Been Playing Better

Yes, the Arizona Coyotes are off of a 5-3 home loss to the Oilers, but they have still won three of their last five games. This comes after winning just one of their first 15 games. The Coyotes are still a bad team but at least they have shown some life of late. Can they keep it rolling against a red-hot Dallas team? We shall see. Scoring in the loss to the Oilers was Clayton Keller, which was his 5th of the year, Travis Boyd, which was his 4th, and Shayne Gostisbehere, which was his 3rd.

So why are the Coyotes at 4-16 on the year? Well, they are last in the league in scoring at 1.85 gpg and 29th in goals allowed at 3.60 gpg. They are also last in the league in shots per game, 26th in power-play conversions, and 30th when on the penalty kill. Add it all up, and you get a 4-16 team. Absorbing the loss to the Oilers was Scott Wedgewood, who allowed four goals on 43 shot attempts to fall to 3-6 with a 2.61 GAA on the year, including 2-5 with a 2.77 GAA here at home. In his career, he has gone 8-16 with a 2.67 GAA in his home games and 0-1 with a 3.04 GAA against the Stars.

Insiders Status:

The Coyotes are playing better at the moment but they are still a bad team and will be facing a Dallas team that is rolling. the Stars have won five of their last six games and they have outscored their last three foes by a count of 11-3. Anton Khudobin has struggled this year, but he will be facing the worst offense in the league, so I will look for him to have one of his best showings of the season. Scott Wedgewood has struggled this year and he is 2-5 with a 2.77 GAA here at home. He also lost his lone career start against the Stars. Lastly, the favorite is 21-5 in the last 26 games in this series.

Prediction: Dallas -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Scott Wedgewood has a 2-5 record at home but with a decent v2.77 GAA and he will be facing a Dallas team that is playing with no rest. The Stars could possibly be a step slow in this one. The Coyotes have the worst offense in the league as they have averaged just 1.8 gpg so far and I see Anton Khudobin having one of his best starts of the year. We also note that Dallas has allowed just three total goals in their last three games. Lastly, the Under is Under is 12-4-1 in the last 17 meetings between these teams here in Arizona.

Prediction: Under 5.5
