vs Vancouver Canucks (7-4-2 SU, 6-7 O-U)
When: Monday, Nov 6th, 10:00 PM ET
Line: DET +120 / VAN -140
The Canucks host the the Red Wings on Monday night at Rogers Arena. Detroit is making a Canadian trek that started off with a loss at Ottawa and a win over Edmonton. Vancouver ended a quick two-game skid with a big victory over Pittsburgh. Both teams have split their last six meetings.
Mantha currently riding three-game goal streak
Detroit’s losing skid ended with victories over Florida and Arizona, but they didn’t start off their long Canadian road trip well with a 3-1 defeat at Ottawa. The Senators were up 2-0 after the second period. The only score by the Red Wings came from Anthony Mantha, who did it on a power play goal late in the game. However, that wasn’t enough and the opponent knocked in a late empty net goal to seal the deal.
Mantha had a goal and an assist in the following 4-0 win over Edmonton on Sunday afternoon. He has had goals in three consecutive games. He’s scored a point in four straight games (five total) with two assists, one of them coming in the win over the Oilers. With Petr Mrazek getting the start between the pipes on Sunday, Jimmy Howard is the likely candidate for this contest. He is 2-1 in his last three games and has allowed seven total goals.
After six scoreless games, Boeser records hat trick over Penguins
Pittsburgh tied the game up early in the third period, but Vancouver would tack on the last two goals of the game in a 4-2 victory over the Penguins. Right wing Brock Boeser nailed a hat trick with a goal in each period. It was his first goals since a 3-0 victory over Ottawa on October 17th. Boeser also had an assist to finish with four points, and he has 13 on the season (5 goals, 8 assists). Vancouver only had 21 shots on goal — four in the final period — but they were fairly efficient in the win.
The offense seems to be back in form after scoring just one total goal in their two losses. The defense remains very stout after holding their opponents to just two goals or less in their last seven games. They’ll be preparing for a back-to-back with Calgary ahead on Tuesday night. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom gave up two goals against Pittsburgh but faced 39 shot attempts, and he’s expected to start on Monday.
Red Wings are:
- 2-7 in their last 9 games overall
- 1-4 in their last 5 road games
- 4-1 in their last 5 games against Eastern Conference
Vancouver’s defense continues to be stout and have been playing well in recent weeks. Go ahead and roll with the home team in this one.
