This Monday, there is a matchup between two Eastern Conference teams as the New York Islanders and the Detroit Red Wings will face off at about 7:30 PM. This is the first meeting between these teams in this regular season and it will take place at Little Caesars Arena.

Goalie Matchup:The Islanders will turn to Semyon Varlamov (7-3-2, 2.63 GAA)and the Red Wings will counter withJonathan Bernier (5-7-2, 3.30 GAA).

Islanders Look To Stay In Second Place

So far this season, the New York Islanders have been one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders have won 17 of their first 24 games as they are currently in possession of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders are also in possession of second place in the Metropolitan Division but lack wiggle room. The Flyers are only one point behind the Islanders for that spot in the standings so this game is important for New York as it will look to potentially extend the gap with another two points on Monday.

Leading the Islanders offensively will be center Mathew Barzal who has looked great this season. He already has a team-high 22 points in 24 games. In addition, Barzal has a Plus/Minus Rating of +12 which is the best on the roster so the Islanders have played well whenever he is on the ice. Now, he will look to help his team get another victory on Monday.

The starting goalie for the Islanders in this game will be Semyon Varlamov who has been amazing this season. He has a 7-3-2 record along with a 2.50 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Last season, Varlamov went 2-0-0 with a 1.47 GAA and a .936 save percentage against the Red Wings.

Red Wings Look To Snap Losing Streak

So far this season, the Detroit Red Wings have been one of the worst teams in the entire league. In addition to being in last place in the Atlantic Division by a wide margin, the Red Wings enter this game in terrible form as they have lost each of their last nine games. Realistically, Detroit has no hope of making the playoffs but it is very discouraging for the fan base when the Red Wings are not even competitive in most of the games that they play. Now, Detroit will look to snap the losing streak and to potential get itself out of the Eastern Conference basement.

Leading the Red Wings offensively will be right-wingerAnthony Mantha who has looked great so far this season. He already has 12 goals and 11 assists in just 25 games. However, Mantha failed to record a point against New Jersey in his last game so he will look to get back on track at home in this game.

The starting goalie for the Red Wings in this game will be Jonathan Bernier who has been pretty underwhelming so far this season. He has a 5-7-2 record and a 3.30 GAA along with a .894 save percentage. Last season, Bernier was 1-1-1 with a 2.30 GAA and a .936 save percentage against the Islanders.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Islanders have been the much better team up to this point and the Red Wings have been awful at home this season so I think that this line is not high enough. New York also enters this game following an impressive shutout against Columbus so its defense is in great form. Meanwhile, Detroit has lost each of its last nine games so there is no way that I can trust the Red Wings in this game. Give me the road team.

Prediction: New York Islanders

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

Even though this total is extremely low, I think it is warranted and I will take the under. The Islanders have been one of the best defensive teams in the entire league this season so I think that they should be able to stop the Red Wings who have had serious issues putting the puck in the net up to this point. At the same time, the Islanders do not have a prolific offense either so this should be a low scoring game. Give me the under.

Prediction: Under 5.5

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

These two teams are headed in opposite directions and I think that the Islanders will get off to a hot start in this road game. New York is still one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and it has been really good at keeping the opposition off of the scoreboard so I think that there is a lot of value in this first period since the Red Wings can easily not score in the first 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the Islanders have been decent enough offensively to get one across in the first 20 minutes. Give me the road team.

Prediction: Islanders 1P
