Islanders Look To Stay In Second PlaceSo far this season, the New York Islanders have been one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders have won 17 of their first 24 games as they are currently in possession of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders are also in possession of second place in the Metropolitan Division but lack wiggle room. The Flyers are only one point behind the Islanders for that spot in the standings so this game is important for New York as it will look to potentially extend the gap with another two points on Monday.
Leading the Islanders offensively will be center Mathew Barzal who has looked great this season. He already has a team-high 22 points in 24 games. In addition, Barzal has a Plus/Minus Rating of +12 which is the best on the roster so the Islanders have played well whenever he is on the ice. Now, he will look to help his team get another victory on Monday.

The starting goalie for the Islanders in this game will be Semyon Varlamov who has been amazing this season. He has a 7-3-2 record along with a 2.50 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Last season, Varlamov went 2-0-0 with a 1.47 GAA and a .936 save percentage against the Red Wings.
Red Wings Look To Snap Losing StreakSo far this season, the Detroit Red Wings have been one of the worst teams in the entire league. In addition to being in last place in the Atlantic Division by a wide margin, the Red Wings enter this game in terrible form as they have lost each of their last nine games. Realistically, Detroit has no hope of making the playoffs but it is very discouraging for the fan base when the Red Wings are not even competitive in most of the games that they play. Now, Detroit will look to snap the losing streak and to potential get itself out of the Eastern Conference basement.
Leading the Red Wings offensively will be right-wingerAnthony Mantha who has looked great so far this season. He already has 12 goals and 11 assists in just 25 games. However, Mantha failed to record a point against New Jersey in his last game so he will look to get back on track at home in this game.
The starting goalie for the Red Wings in this game will be Jonathan Bernier who has been pretty underwhelming so far this season. He has a 5-7-2 record and a 3.30 GAA along with a .894 save percentage. Last season, Bernier was 1-1-1 with a 2.30 GAA and a .936 save percentage against the Islanders.
