Thursday evening pucks and a pair of teams from the Metro Division will duke it out as the Columbus Blue Jackets rumble with the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. The Blue Jackets check in off a 9-6 home loss to the Calgary Flames, while the Flyers are off a 4-2 road win over the Penguins.
Bobrovsky Gets Burned By The Flames
Normally, in hockey, when you score six goals in a game, you shouldn’t lose by three, but that is what happened the last time the Blue Jackets took the ice. Columbus took on the Calgary Flames on Tuesday evening at home and fell in that game by a score of 9-6. Sergei Bobrovsky had the bad outing as he allowed eight goals on 26 shot attempts, before being removed in favor of Joonas Korpisalo. Bobrovsky is now 10-9 with a 3.04 GAA and a .901 save percentage on the year, while out on the road he has gone 5-4 with a 3.03 GAA and a .905 save percentage. In his career, he has gone 11-4 with a 1.98 GAA against the Flyers.

Goaltending has been a bit of a problem for the Blue Jackets this year so far, but their offense has not been that much of an issue, especially of late as they have now averaged 4.22 gpg over their last nine games. Cam Atkinson led the attack against the Flames by notching a hat trick in the loss. He now has 19 goals on the year. Zach Werenski (5th), Josh Anderson (12th) and Nick Foligno (7th) also scored in the loss. The Blue Jackets enter this game ranked 7th in the league in scoring at 3.56 gpg and 24th in goals allowed at 3.37 gpg.
Flyers Stun The Penguins On The Road
It has not been a good start for the Flyers so far as they have gone 11-14 overall and have spent some time in the basement of the Metro Division. They are not there now, but the Flyers are in 7th place, nine points out of first. They enter this game off a rather shocking 4-2 road win over the Pittsburgh Penguins but have still gone just 2-6 over their last eight games. Can the Flyers start to string some wins together? We shall see. The game was tied 2-2 entering the 3rd when Dale Weise (2nd) scored just 51 seconds into the final frame to put Philly up for good. Travis Konecny (8th), Claude Giroux (9th) and Jakub Voracek (7th) also scored in the win.

Snatching up the win was Anthony Stolarz, who stopped 30 of the 32 shots that he faced to improve to 1-1 with a 2.88 GAA and a .912 save percentage on the year. He is 3-3 with a 2.32 GAA and a .923 save percentage in his career overall and will be facing the Blue Jackets for the first time. Philadelphia enters this game ranked 15th in the league in scoring at 3.00 gpg and 29th in goals allowed at 3.52 gpg.
- 3-7 in their last 10 vs. a team with a winning record.
- 4-10 in their last 14 games following a win.
- 7-2 in their last 9 games following a home loss of 3 or more goals.
- 13-5 in their last 18 games following a loss of 3 or more goals
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will look for the Blue Jackets to take this one. Bobrovsky is off a horrible outing and has been itching to get back on the to ice. He has not been great overall, but Bobrovsky has gone 11-4 with a 1.98 GAA in his career against the Flyers. Anthony Stolarz has played well in his brief career so far, but the Jackets have been hot on offense as they have averaged 4.22 gpg over their last nine games. Take the Jackets, especially since they are 16-5 the last 21 games in this series.
Prediction: Columbus -110
Full-Game Total Pick
I can’t look anywhere but the Over for this game. The Blue Jackets have been one of the hottest offensive teams in the league as they have scored 4.22 gpg over their last nine games. Anthony Stolarz has played well so far, but the Flyers are 29th in the league in goals allowed at 3.52 gpg. The Flyers have averaged just 2.77 gpg, but Columbus has allowed 3.21 gpg on the road and 4.14 gpg over their last seven games. Lastly. we note that the Over is 7-1-1 the last nine games between these teams here in Philadelphia.
Prediction: Over 6
