Thursday evening on the NHL ice and a pair of teams from the Atlantic Division will square off as the Montreal Canadiens invade Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario to rumble with the Ottawa Senators. This is game two of a home-and-home series. The Habs won game one by a score of 5-2.

Domi Leads Habs To Game-One Win

The Montreal Canadiens have struggled of late as they have lost seven of their last nine games. Montreal is now at 13-15 on the year and in 5th place in the Atlantic Division. They are 12 points out of first. The Habs hope that they are turning the corner as they have gone 2-1 in their last three games after beating Ottawa at home by a score of 5-2 in game one of this home-and-home series. Max Domi led the attack with two goals, and he now has 13 on the year. Jonathan Drouin (10th), Artturi Lehkonen (5th) and Brendan Gallagher (12th) also scored in the win. The Habs have scored ten goals in their last two wins, but just eight goals in their previous five losses.

Grabbing the win was Carey Price, who stopped 28 of the 30 shots that he faced to improve to 9-12 with a 3.01 GAA and a .899 save percentage on the year, while out on the road he has gone 4-4 with a  2.74 GAA and a .915 save percentage. In his career, he has gone 23-14 with a 2.32 GAA against the Senators. The Canadiens come in ranked 13th in scoring at 3.07 GAA and 21st in goals allowed at 3.21 gpg.

Win Streak Snapped In Game One

The Ottawa Senators have not had a great start to their year, but they did come into game one of this home-and-home series riding a three-game win streak. That streak is now over after they fell to the Habs by a score of 5-2. The Sens are now at 3-10 on the road, compared to going 9-6 here at home. The problem for the Senators this year has been their play at the defensive end of the ice, and it has never been more evident than recently. Ottawa has gone 3-6 in their last nine games, and they have allowed five total goals in the three wins and 28 goals in the six losses. Scoring in the game-one loss was Dylan Demelo, which was his 3rd of the year and Mark Stone, which was his 13th.

Absorbing the loss was Craig Anderson, who allowed five goals on 41 shot attempts to fall to 11-013 with a 3.68 GAA and a .904 save percentage on the year, while here at home he has gone 9-6 with a 3.18 GAA and a .916 save percentage. In his career, he has gone 12-15 with a 3.20 GAA against the Canadiens. The Senators enter this game ranked 6th in scoring at 3.57 gpg and last in goals allowed at 4.07 gpg.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

The Senators have struggled on the road this year, but they have played well at home, especially of late as they have won four of their last five here at Canadian Tire Centre. The Habs are not a good road team and the home team has won the last five in this series. I will look for the Senators to get revenge for the game-one loss and the clincher is the 6-20 in Montreal’s last 26 games following a win.

Prediction: Ottawa +110

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Game one of this series saw seven goals scored and this one should see at least that many. Ottawa’s home games have averaged 7.20 gpg, while their last 10 have put up 7.60 gpg. The Over is 12-5-1 in Montreal’s last 18 vs. the Eastern Conference and 13-3-2 in Ottawa’s last 18 vs. a team with a losing record, plus 4-1 the last five games in this series here in Ottawa.

Prediction: Over 6.5
