National Hockey League action on Tuesday evening and the Central Division will square off with the Atlantic Division as the Dallas Stars grapple with the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. The Stars are off a 3-2 loss to the Coyotes on the road, while the Panthers are off a 5-2 home loss to the Lightning.
Stars Take A Tumble In The Desert
The Dallas Stars are very much in the thick of the playoff race in the Western Conference, but they are struggling a little as they have followed up a five-game winning streak with a mini-two game slide. Both losses have come on the road and that is where the Stars have had their issues this year. The Stars have gone 10-17 on the road and they have averaged 2.15 gpg and have allowed 2.74 gpg in those games. Dallas is currently in the 5th spot in the West, but their lead over 9th place Vancouver is just four points. If Dallas wants to at least keep their playoff position, then they must get their act together on the road. Dallas is off a tough 3-2 loss to Arizona on the road and scoring in the loss was Brett Ritchie, which was his 4th of the year and Alexander Radulov, which was his 15th. Both goals came 27 seconds apart in the final 3:39 of the game to tighten things up after they trailed 3-0, but the stars couldn’t get the tying goal.

Absorbing the loss to the Coyotes was Anton Khudobin, who allowed three goals on 39 shot attempts to fall to 9-13 with a 2.45 GAA on the year overall, including 4-10 with a 2.59 GAA on the road. In his career, he has gone 3-2 with a 2.43 GAA against the Panthers. Khudobin will continue to get the bulk of the start while Ben Bishop is out. Dallas enters this game ranked 14th in the league in power play conversions at 20.8% and 6th in penalty kill at 82.8%.
Panthers Can’t Short Out The Bolts
The Florida Panthers have been playing well of late, but they couldn’t take down the best team in the league in their last game. The Panthers lost at home to the lightning by a score of 5-2, but they have still won six of their last nine games. Despite their recent run, the Panthers are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference and nine points out of the 8th spot, so they still have plenty of work to do. The Panthers fell behind the Bolts 1-0 just 4:02 into the game and were never able to recover. Scoring in the loss was Frank Vatrano, which was his 19th goal of the year and Denis Malgin, which was his 6th of the year.

Taking the loss against the Lightning was James Reimer (10-13, 3.10 GAA), who allowed three goals on 12 shot attempts, before being replaced by Roberto Luongo, who allowed two goals on 11 shot attempts the rest of the way. Luongo will get the nod in this one and he has gone 12-13 with a 3.19 GAA on the year overall, including 7-4 with a 2.45 GAA here at home. In his career, he has gone 15-11 with a 2.29 GAA against the Stars. Florida has gone 12-14 here at home for the year and they have averaged 3.23 gpg and have allowed 3.00 gpg in those games. The Panthers check in ranked 2nd in power play conversions at 26.5% and 13th in penalty kill at 80.1%.
- 15-5 in their last 20 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150
- 15-7 in their last 22 games following a home loss of 3 or more goals
- 6-13 in their last 19 vs. the Atlantic
- 15-36 in their last 51 games as a road underdog of +110 to +150
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Panthers have been playing well of late as they have won six of their last nine games and the Stars have gone just 10-17 on the road for the year. I like the Panthers in this one. Roberto Luongo has gone 15-11 with a 2.29 GAA against the Stars in his career and 7-4 with a 2.45 GAA here at home, while Anton Kudobin has gone just 4-10 with a 2.59 GAA on the road for the year. He has nice numbers against the Panthers in his career but won’t get much help from an offense that averages just 2.14 gpg on the road. Take the Panthers in this one.
Prediction: Florida -120
Full-Game Total Pick
I will look for this one to go Under the total. The Stars can’t score on the road and Luongo has a 2.45 GAA at home and a 2.29 GAA in his career against the Stars. Khudobin may have a 4-10 record on the road, but he also has a 2.59 GAA in those games and a 2.32 GAA against the Panthers. The Under is 6-1-1 in Stars last 8 games playing on 2 days rest and 9-3-1 the last 13 meetings between these teams here in Florida.
Prediction: Under 5.5
