A major clash of Metro Division combatants will take place this evening at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio as the Washington Capitals duke it out with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Capitals are off a 6-4 home win over the Kings, while the Blue Jackets are off a 4-3 road win over the Golden Knights.
Caps Take Down Kings In A Wild One
The Washington Capitals have struggled of late, but they do come in off a 6-4 home win over the Kings. Still, the Capitals have gone just 4-9 over their last 13 games, but despite their struggles, they are sitting just four points out of first in the Metro Division. The Caps will look to keep it going in this none, but it will not be easy as they are playing on no rest. Washington did trail the Kings 3-2 in the second before the Caps outscored them 4-1 the rest of the way. Evgeny Kuznetsov led the way with two goals and he now has 15 on the year. Also scoring in the win was Alex Ovechkin, which was his 38th of the year, Brett Connolly, which was his 13th, Christian Djoos, which was his 1st of the year and Jakub Vrana, which was his 17th.

Snatching up the win was Pheonix Copley, who stopped 29 of the 33 shots that he faced to improve to 12-7 with a 3.02 GAA on the year. Braden Holtby is slated to get the start in this one and he has gone 19-17 with a 3.07 GAA on the year, including 7-6 with a 3.44 GAA on the road. In his career, he has gone 15-7 with a 2.47 GAA against the Blue Jackets. Washington has gone 14-9 out on the road for the year and they have averaged 3.35 gpg and have allowed 3.26 gpg in those games. The Capitals check in ranked 13th in power play conversions at 21.0% and 23rd in penalty kill at 78.3%.
Blue Jackets Top Golden Knights On The Road
The Columbus Blue Jackets recently suffered through a five-game losing streak, which was preceded by a four-game winning streak. They are now back on track after taking down the Golden Knights on the road by a score of 4-3 in their last action. The Blue Jackets now have a three-game winning streak going and a win in this game would pull them to within two points of the Capitals for 2nd place in the Metro Division. This should be a good game between a couple of teams that are jockeying for playoff position in the east. The Blue Jackets trailed Vegas 2-1 after one, but fought back and eventually won the game with 2:39 left in regulation on Cam Atkinson’s 2nd goal of the game. He also scored the tying goal in the 3rd and now has 31 goals on the year. Josh Anderson (19th) & Artemi Panarin (21st), also scored in the win.

Grabbing the win against the Golden Knights was Sergei Bobrovsky, who stopped 30 of the 23 shots that he faced to improve to 22-17 with a 2.98 GAA on the year, including 10-9 with a 2.98 GAA here at home. In his career, he has gone 8-5 with a 3.02 GAA against the Capitals. Columbus has gone 14-12 here at home for the year and they have averaged 3.42 gpg and have allowed 3.15 gpg in those games. The Blue Jackets check in ranked 22nd in power play conversions at 16.7% and 3rd in penalty kill at 84.1%.
- 7-1 in their last 8 vs. the Metropolitan
- 9-4 in their last 13 games as a favorite
- 1-6 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record
- 0-5 in their last 5 vs. the Eastern Conference
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Capitals are not in a good spot here as they are facing a Columbus team that has won their last three games in a row and they are doing so on no rest. The Caps have been inconsistent of late and they have gone just 4-9 in their last 13 games overall and I just don’t see them having what it takes to take out a solid Columbus team on the road. Look for Columbus to take advantage of a tired Washington squad.
Prediction: Columbus -140
Full-Game Total Pick
I will look for this one to go Over the Total. The Caps will be on tired legs on offense, but the Blue Jackets have allowed 3.30 gpg over their last 10 games and the Caps have averaged 3.40 gpg on the road. The Caps have been torched in the crease of late as they have allowed 4.40 gpg over their last 10 games and 3.56 gpg on the road, while the Blue Jackets have averaged 3.60 gpg over their last 10 games and 3.37 gpg at home. The Over is 4-1 in Washington’s last five in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation and 4-0-2 in Columbus’ last six overall,
Prediction: Over 6.5
