Buffalo Sabres vs Ottawa Senators

Where: Canadian Tire Center

When: Monday, February 18, 2020, 7:30 pm ET

We have an Atlantic Division NHL matchup to consider for Tuesday evening when the Buffalo Sabres meet the Ottawa Senators for game four of their four-game season series. The Sabres enter this contest riding a three-game winning streak and the Senators defeated Dallas in their previous game.

Buffalo Three Game Winning Streak

The Sabres have won four of their last five games and Tuesday marks game one of a one-game road trip. Buffalo is 9-14-4 this season away from home and if the regular season were to end today the Sabers would be the twelfth seed in the Eastern Conference and is currently eight points behind eighth seed Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Sabres power-play unit is twenty-ninth in the NHL with a 19.5 percent success rate while the penalty kill unit is twenty-ninth in the National Hockey League with a 75.1 percent penalty kill rate this season.

Carter Hutton is likely in the crease on Tuesday evening and he has an 11-9-4 record with a 3.12 GAA and 89 percent save percentage. Hutton stopped 20 of 22 shots faced in a 5-2 home victory for his fourth consecutive win in as many starts.

Ottawa Defeats Dallas

The Senators have won two of its last five games and if the regular season were to end today, Ottawa would be the fifteenth seed in the Eastern Conference. Tuesday night marks game four of a six-game homestand and the Ottawa is 14-11-6 at Canadian Tire Center this season. Ottawa is 35 points behind the conference top spot but a victory Tuesday would give the Senators a season series win over Buffalo.

The Senator’s power-play unit is thirtieth in the NHL with a 14.5 percent success rate while the penalty kill unit is twenty-first in the National Hockey League with a 78.6 percent penalty kill rate this season.

Craig Anderson will likely start between the pipes for Ottawa and he is 8-13-2 this season with a 3.19 GAA and 90 percent save percentage. Anderson stopped 36 of 39 shots faced in a 4-3 overtime home win over Dallas on Sunday evening.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

The Senators should win this game. The Sabres winning streak had more to do with playing at home than anything else but they are a different team when away from Buffalo. Ottawa isn’t that much better of a home team and while they don’t have much to play for, a victory would give the Senators a season series victory and I think that is what will happen here. I will take Ottawa to defeat Buffalo in this matchup.

Prediction: Ottawa

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I will go with OVER in this one. The over is 5-5 over their last ten meetings and I expect this contest to exceed the total. These are two very bad hockey teams with shaky bluelines and underperforming goaltending and I expect more than seven goals scored in this contest. Neither team has much in the way of special teams and both sides allow more than three goals per game. I will take the OVER in this matchup.

Prediction: Over
