Having lost their last two outings, the Nashville Predators (4th in Central Division) will try to get back on the beam while playing host to the Chicago Blackhawks (5th in Central), who have triumphed in three of their past four overall matchups.

‘Hawks Shut Out Detroit

The Chicago Blackhawks (21-19-5) recorded their third victory in the past four contests (3-1-0) and fourth triumph in their last six outings (4-2-0) after blanking the Detroit Red Wings with a score of 4-0 at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday. Patrick Kane (15 goals, 56 points this year) notched a snipe and an assist. Vinnie Hinostroza (5 assists, 5 points) picked up three helpers, while Alex DeBrincat (22 goals, 43 points), Wyatt Kalynuk (2 goals, 4 points) and Pius Suter (12 goals, 20 points) all scored for Chicago, which ended its season series against Detroit with a 6-2-0 total.

Goalie Malcolm Subban (5-5-1 on the season with a 2.86 GAA and a .911 save percentage) made 29 saves on Saturday, but is expected to vacate the crease for Kevin Lankinen ahead of the trip to Nashville. Lankinen has posted a 16-12-4 tally for the ongoing campaign with a 2.79 GAA and a .914 save percentage, and has gone 0-2-1 against the Nashville Predators previously with a 2.31 GAA and a .928 save percentage. The Blackhawks, meanwhile, are 15th in least goals scored per game this year (2.78), 12th in most goals given up on average (3.04), 7th in power play (23.7%) and tied-3rd from the bottom with the Preds in penalty kill (74.8%).

Preds Lose Carolina Double

Two consecutive defeats (0-2-0) were on the cards for the Nashville Predators (24-21-1), who dropped both games of their two-date road set against the Carolina Hurricanes after following up Thursday’s 4-1 loss with a 3-1 setback at PNC Arena on Saturday. The Preds killed both of their penalties, but were outshot 48-28 and failed to convert on both of their opportunities with the man-advantage, ultimately finding the back of the net just once through Roman Josi (6 goals, 28 points this year), who tied the game at 1-1 in the second period before the ‘Canes tallied twice more in the final third. Nashville is 2-3-0 in its last five outings after dropping just two of its previous 13 (11-2-0).

Goalie Juuse Saros stopped 45 shots on Saturday to take his current performance record to 15-9-0 for the ongoing campaign with a 2.23 GAA and a .928 save percentage. He has registered a 3-2-0 career total against the Chicago Blackhawks with a 1.99 GAA and a .937 save percentage. The Predators, meanwhile, are scoring the 6th lowest number of goals per game this season (2.52), while allowing the 16th highest quantity in their defensive zone (2.83). The team is 22nd in power play with an 18.9% success rate and tied-3rd from the bottom with the ‘Hawks in penalty kill with 74.8% proficiency.

Insiders Status:

There are three teams currently battling for the 4th playoff spot in the Central Division, and two of them will be facing off in Nashville on Monday. Following a terrific run of results, which saw the Predators win 13 of 16 games and forced them to cancel their selling plans on the NHL’s trade deadline day, the team has now lost two outings in a row for the first time since mid-March. That, of course, is great news for the Dallas Stars, who trail Nashville by three points with three games in hand. And don’t count out the Blackhawks, who sit just two points behind the Preds with a contest in hand. Nashville still is, though, the only opponent Chicago is yet to beat this season, with the Predators having snatched victories in all five previous matchups played against the ‘Hawks this year. Expect that count to rise up to six! Chicago has been way too inconsistent lately, managing to win consecutive games on just two of the last 10 occasions, while the Preds have followed up a setback with a triumph on four of the previous five tries.
