The Cougars are also trying to start 5-0 for the third consecutive season, something the program has never done before.
That does not mean Friday's matchup is without complications.
BYU will play without star running back LJ Martin and linebacker Isaiah Glasker, two of the most important players on the roster.
Kickoff is scheduled for 10:15 p.m. ET Friday at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.

BYU Has 79% Chance to Beat Iowa State
The current Kalshi game market strongly favors BYU:
- BYU Cougars: approximately 79%
- Iowa State Cyclones: approximately 21%
That makes BYU one of the stronger favorites on Friday night's college football board.
The spread market is more competitive.
Kalshi currently prices the probability of BYU winning by more than 10.5 points at roughly 50%.
That distinction matters.
Traders strongly expect BYU to win the game.
They are far less certain the Cougars will dominate it.
BYU Enters 4-0 and Ranked No. 8
BYU has built one of the strongest starts in the Big 12.
The Cougars are 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
They climbed to No. 8 in the latest AP Top 25 and return to Provo after spending nearly a month away from home.
A victory would give BYU a third consecutive 5-0 start.
The Cougars have done most of their work with a defense that has kept games under control and an offense capable of leaning on the run when needed.
Friday will test the depth behind some of their most important players.
LJ Martin Is Out Against Iowa State
The biggest BYU injury is at running back.
LJ Martin has been ruled out after suffering a lower-leg injury during last week's 17-10 win at TCU.
Martin has rushed for 344 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 7.8 yards per carry.
He was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year last season and remains the most proven runner in BYU's offense.
His absence becomes even more important because backup running back Sione Moa is also unavailable.
BYU will have to rely on a committee behind quarterback Bear Bachmeier.
Isaiah Glasker Is Also Out
The Cougars will also be without linebacker Isaiah Glasker.
Glasker has been one of BYU's most important defensive players and gives the Cougars another significant absence in a game against an Iowa State offense with an explosive rushing threat.
That puts additional responsibility on the rest of the front seven.
The matchup becomes especially important because Iowa State running back Aiden Flora enters Friday playing his best football of the season.
Aiden Flora Gives Iowa State a Real Threat
Iowa State's clearest path to an upset runs through Flora.
He rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns in last week's 45-42 win over West Virginia.
Flora also threw two touchdown passes on halfback plays.
He enters Friday averaging 8.1 yards per carry with 594 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
That production gives the Cyclones an offensive weapon capable of shortening the game and keeping BYU's offense off the field.
With Martin unavailable on the other side, Flora may be the best healthy running back in the matchup.
Bear Bachmeier Has to Carry More of the BYU Offense
Martin's absence shifts more responsibility to quarterback Bear Bachmeier.
BYU did not get much through the air in last week's win over TCU.
Bachmeier finished with only 62 passing yards on 24 attempts in difficult conditions.
That may not be enough Friday if Iowa State successfully limits BYU's replacement running backs.
The Cougars need Bachmeier to create more consistent downfield offense and avoid putting the defense in difficult field-position situations.
BYU's ability to win without Martin may depend on how much Bachmeier can expand the passing game.
Iowa State Also Has Injury Problems
The Cyclones are not entering Provo at full strength either.
Iowa State is expected to be without several defensive players, including Drew Surges, Caden Crawford and Ka'Mori Moore.
Those losses affect a defense already facing one of the more difficult road environments in the Big 12.
Iowa State has been effective on third down defensively, but depth becomes increasingly important against an undefeated opponent playing at home.
The Cyclones need to prevent BYU from sustaining long drives even if Martin is unavailable.
BYU Is a Double-Digit Favorite
Traditional sportsbook pricing also shows BYU as a substantial favorite.
The Cougars are generally around a 10 to 11.5-point favorite entering Friday night.
Kalshi's spread market is centered around the same range.
The probability of BYU winning by more than 10.5 points is approximately 50%.
That creates a useful split in the market.
BYU is heavily favored to win outright.
The margin is much less certain.
Low Total Suggests a Controlled Game
The total is another indication of the expected game script.
Kalshi currently has the total centered around 45.5 points, with the Over carrying roughly a 54% probability.
That is not the profile of a game expected to turn into a shootout.
BYU's defense has been strong.
The Cougars are also missing their top two running backs.
Iowa State has an explosive runner in Flora but has been inconsistent offensively.
A lower-scoring game would naturally give the underdog more opportunities to stay close.
Home Field Matters for BYU
Friday is BYU's first home game in nearly a month.
LaVell Edwards Stadium has become a significant advantage for the Cougars.
BYU has won six consecutive home games against FBS opponents dating to last season.
The Cougars now get to return home at night with an undefeated record and a top-10 ranking.
That atmosphere is another reason the market continues to favor BYU despite the injury list.
Iowa State Has Upset Opportunity
A 79% BYU probability still leaves Iowa State with a meaningful path.
The Cyclones have a productive running back, BYU is missing important starters, and the spread market is less decisive than the outright winner market.
Iowa State does not need to dominate the game.
It needs to keep the score close long enough for Flora and the defense to create pressure late.
If BYU struggles to generate offense without Martin, the Cyclones could make the final quarter uncomfortable.
BYU vs Iowa State Markets to Watch
Kalshi currently has several active markets surrounding Friday night's game.
- BYU to win: approximately 79%
- Iowa State to win: approximately 21%
- BYU by more than 10.5 points: approximately 50%
- Over 45.5 points: approximately 54%
- BYU over 27.5 team points: approximately 56%
The clearest market signal remains the outright winner.
BYU is expected to win.
The spread and total markets suggest the path may be less comfortable than the moneyline probability implies.

BYU Favored to Reach 5-0
BYU has earned its position as the favorite.
The Cougars are undefeated, ranked No. 8 and back at home.
But Friday is not a routine matchup.
Martin is out.
Glasker is out.
Iowa State has one of the most dangerous running backs on the field in Flora.
That combination explains why the outright market is far more confident in BYU than the spread market.
Kalshi currently gives the Cougars approximately a 79% chance to beat Iowa State.
A victory would move BYU to 5-0 for the third straight season and keep the Cougars firmly in the Big 12 and national playoff conversation.
