MLB Best Bet No. 1: Cardinals ML -136 vs Giants

Pick: St. Louis Cardinals ML -136 Play to: -140

St. Louis has attracted some of the most meaningful market support on Monday's board.

The Cardinals were closer to -116 in the broader opening market and moved through the -130s before reaching approximately -136 Monday afternoon.

That movement matters because it agrees with the underlying matchup rather than fighting it.

San Francisco arrives in St. Louis after being swept by San Diego and is playing out the final weeks of an already-eliminated season with an increasingly depleted roster.

The biggest loss is Rafael Devers.

Devers has been ruled out for the remainder of 2026 and is set to undergo surgery for a core muscle injury after finishing his season with 37 home runs and 98 RBI.

The Giants are also dealing with a long list of other injuries that has forced younger players into expanded roles.

St. Louis is not operating at full strength either, but Monday's venue split still favors the Cardinals.

The current trend database has San Francisco at approximately -22.70% on the road moneyline. St. Louis has also lost money at home, but its approximately -4.84% home figure is substantially better than San Francisco's road performance.

That difference helped make Cardinals ML one of the highest-rated moneyline plays on Monday's Edge Sheet.

Quinn Mathews vs Landen Roupp

The probable starter matchup is relatively balanced.

St. Louis is expected to start left-hander Quinn Mathews, who enters with a 4.11 ERA.

San Francisco counters with Landen Roupp at 4.00.

That means this is not a bet based on a massive starting-pitcher mismatch.

The case is instead built around price movement, venue performance, roster condition and the Giants' current trajectory.

Roupp can keep San Francisco in the game, but the Cardinals do not need to overcome a major pitching disadvantage to justify the current price.

Weather should not be a major obstacle either. The Monday forecast around Busch Stadium calls for mostly sunny conditions with only a small chance of precipitation.

Best bet: Cardinals ML -136. Play to -140.

MLB Best Bet No. 2: Orioles ML +110 vs Mets

Pick: Baltimore Orioles ML +110 Play at: +100 or better

Baltimore provides the most attractive plus-money position on Monday's board.

The Orioles are available around +110 at Citi Field despite holding the better probable starting-pitcher numbers.

Brandon Young enters the game at 9-4 with a 3.71 ERA.

New York is expected to counter with Jonah Tong, who enters at 2-1 with a 4.80 ERA.

That gap is significant enough to make Baltimore interesting at an underdog price.

The Edge Sheet also identifies a major venue discrepancy.

Baltimore's road moneyline return sits around -1.03%, essentially close to break-even.

The Mets have been dramatically worse for moneyline bettors at Citi Field, with their home ML return around -18.74%.

That does not make Baltimore a dominant team.

The Orioles have struggled recently and enter the series below .500.

But bettors are not being asked to lay a price with Baltimore. The Orioles only need to win often enough to justify a number above even money.

Young Gives Baltimore the Pitching Edge

Young is the clearest reason to take the plus-money position seriously.

His 3.71 ERA compares favorably with Tong's 4.80 mark, and the Mets' offense has just come through a difficult Subway Series against the Yankees.

New York lost two of three to the Yankees and was shut out 2-0 Sunday.

Baltimore also has Pete Alonso returning to Citi Field as an opponent after spending seven seasons with the Mets.

Alonso enters the series with 35 home runs and 100 RBI, adding another legitimate middle-of-the-order threat to the Baltimore lineup.

Weather is not expected to create a major complication at Citi Field, with a mostly dry Monday forecast.

At approximately +110, Baltimore does not need to be the clearly superior team.

The combination of the probable starter edge, New York's poor home betting profile and the plus-money price is enough.

Best bet: Orioles ML +110. Keep it to +100 or better.

MLB Best Bet No. 3: Diamondbacks ML -138 vs Marlins

Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks ML -138 Play to: -140

Arizona gets the third spot on Monday's card at approximately -138 against Miami.

The Diamondbacks have been one of the better teams in baseball during the second half and enter the series still fighting for an NL Wild Card position.

Arizona is 79-70 overall and 42-32 at Chase Field.

Miami is 73-76 and just 29-43 on the road.

The betting splits tell the same story.

Arizona's home moneyline return is approximately +2.92%, compared with Miami at roughly -13.11% on the road.

That is one of the cleaner venue mismatches available Monday.

Corbin Burnes Returns for His Second Start

The starting-pitcher situation requires some context.

Corbin Burnes will make just his second major-league start since returning from Tommy John surgery.

Burnes worked three scoreless innings against Kansas City in his season debut, allowing two hits and two walks while throwing 57 pitches.

His current 0.00 ERA therefore should not be treated as a normal full-season statistic.

Burnes is still being built back up, and Arizona is likely to manage his workload again Monday.

That keeps the Diamondbacks behind St. Louis and Baltimore on this card.

But it does not eliminate the bet.

Arizona's bullpen has already handled games behind shortened starting-pitcher outings effectively, and the Diamondbacks have a significant home-versus-road advantage in this matchup.

Miami counters with Sandy Alcantara, who owns a 3.78 ERA and is capable of keeping the Marlins competitive.

That is why the price ceiling matters.

Arizona makes sense around -135 to -140.

The case becomes less attractive if the Diamondbacks are steamed well beyond that range.

Arizona Has the Better Venue Profile

Miami has been competitive enough overall to avoid being treated as a weak opponent.

The road record is different.

The Marlins are 15 games under .500 away from home and carry one of the weaker road moneyline returns on Monday's board.

Arizona has been profitable at Chase Field and remains in a live playoff race.

The Diamondbacks also recently won five of six before dropping the series finale against Texas.

With Burnes back on the mound, a strong bullpen behind him and a significant venue edge, Arizona remains playable at the current number.

Best bet: Diamondbacks ML -138. Play to -140.

Why Padres -1.5 Did Not Make the Final Card

San Diego was one of the strongest plays on the morning board.

The Padres entered Monday on a seven-game winning streak and originally offered a playable -1.5 price near -110 against Colorado.

That number did not hold.

By Monday afternoon, much of the market had moved the Padres run line into roughly the -125 to -140 range.

The matchup is still favorable.

San Diego starter Casey Mize owns a 3.70 ERA, while Colorado's Tomoyuki Sugano carries a 5.30 ERA and has struggled badly in recent starts.

But a good handicap does not automatically remain a good wager at every price.

Monday's card is stronger without chasing San Diego after the market adjustment.

MLB Best Bets for September 14

Monday's best bets are built around price discipline rather than simply backing the biggest favorites.

Cardinals ML -136 gets the top spot because St. Louis has received meaningful market support while San Francisco arrives shorthanded and owns an extremely poor road moneyline profile.

Orioles ML +110 offers the best plus-money value of the three, with Brandon Young holding the probable starting-pitcher advantage against Jonah Tong.

Diamondbacks ML -138 completes the card because Arizona's home profile remains significantly stronger than Miami's road performance, although Corbin Burnes' workload keeps it below the first two selections.

  • Cardinals ML -136 — play to -140
  • Orioles ML +110 — play at +100 or better
  • Diamondbacks ML -138 — play to -140

The prices are part of the picks.

If a line moves beyond the listed threshold, do not chase it simply because the underlying matchup still looks attractive.
