MLB Best Bets for Sunday, August 23rd
Sunday's MLB schedule is already underway, but several of the strongest games on the board are still ahead. Our MLB Best Bets for August 23 focus on five moneyline plays from the late afternoon and evening slate.
Every selection below comes directly from today's Winners & Whiners MLB picks. We are not changing the underlying recommendations. Instead, this card brings together five of the strongest remaining plays in one place.
Odds continue to move throughout the afternoon, so shop around before placing a wager. Bettors looking for available welcome offers can also compare the latest sportsbook promo codes available through Winners & Whiners.
Cleveland Guardians Moneyline vs. Colorado Rockies
The Cleveland Guardians are our first late-slate moneyline play, with the price sitting around -170 ahead of their 3:10 PM ET matchup in Colorado.

Cleveland enters Sunday with three consecutive wins and sends Foster Griffin to the mound against Tomoyuki Sugano. Griffin has been one of the more reliable parts of the Guardians' rotation, while Colorado presents another favorable matchup for a Cleveland team trying to keep pressure on the White Sox in the AL Central race.
The original Guardians vs. Rockies prediction also backs Cleveland on the moneyline. The Guardians have the pitching advantage and have been the better team during the current series.
Our first MLB Best Bet for Sunday is Cleveland to win on the moneyline at around -170.
Bettors comparing prices can also review the current DraftKings sportsbook promotion. Winners & Whiners currently lists a new-user offer in which eligible players can spend at least $5 and receive $200 in bonuses instantly. No promo code is required, and terms and location restrictions apply.
Boston Red Sox Moneyline vs. San Francisco Giants
Boston is the biggest favorite on this card, but the Red Sox still make the cut against the San Francisco Giants at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox are priced around -220 for the 3:15 PM ET start. Jake Bennett is scheduled to take the ball for Boston, while San Francisco currently lists Matt Wilkinson as its starter.
Boston also enters Sunday with momentum after rallying for a 3-2 victory Saturday. The Red Sox scored twice in the ninth inning to turn a late deficit into another home win.
The full Giants vs. Red Sox prediction backs Boston to win.
The price is substantial, which makes this a play where line shopping is particularly important. Still, Boston owns the stronger overall profile and gets the game at Fenway.
Boston to win on the moneyline at around -220 is our second MLB Best Bet.

Chicago Cubs Moneyline vs. Seattle Mariners
The most attractively priced moneyline on the card comes from Seattle, where the Chicago Cubs are around -110 against the Mariners.
Chicago sends Shota Imanaga to the mound against Bryce Miller in the 4:10 PM ET finale.
The pitching matchup drives much of the case for the Cubs. Imanaga has been pitching well, while Miller has struggled to produce consistent results for Seattle.
The Cubs also have an opportunity to avoid a sweep after Seattle took the first two games of the series, including a 5-4 walk-off win Saturday.
Winners & Whiners' complete Cubs vs. Mariners prediction makes Chicago the moneyline play. The current W&W free-play board has the Cubs around -112.
Unlike Boston, Chicago does not require bettors to lay a significant favorite price. This is close to a pick'em with the preferred starting pitcher on the Cubs' side.
Chicago on the moneyline at around -110 is our third MLB Best Bet for August 23.

San Diego Padres Moneyline vs. Minnesota Twins
The Padres are the fourth selection as they host Minnesota at 4:10 PM ET.
San Diego is trading around -140 with Walker Buehler scheduled to start against Bailey Ober.
The Padres took Saturday's game 7-5 and have been one of the stronger home teams on the board. Sunday's matchup gives them another opportunity to capitalize on a Minnesota club that has struggled in interleague play.
Winners & Whiners also sides with San Diego in the full Twins vs. Padres prediction.
Buehler does not need to dominate for this wager to cash. San Diego's deeper overall roster and home-field performance give the Padres multiple paths to another win.
The Padres moneyline at around -140 is our fourth MLB Best Bet.
Bettors looking at the late afternoon slate can also review the latest Caesars Sportsbook promotion and its current eligibility and wagering terms before signing up.
Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline vs. Atlanta Braves
Our final play comes from Sunday night's Little League Classic in Williamsport, where the Milwaukee Brewers face the Atlanta Braves.
The game is scheduled for 7:10 PM ET at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
Milwaukee is around a -130 favorite with Shane Drohan scheduled to start against Atlanta's Tyler Mahle.
The Brewers have already taken the first two games of this series. They won Friday's opener 2-1 before beating Atlanta 4-1 on Saturday, putting themselves in position to complete the sweep in one of Sunday's showcase games.
The same side appears in the full Braves vs. Brewers prediction.
Milwaukee has been the stronger team throughout the weekend, and the current price is still reasonable enough to back the Brewers without laying the type of number attached to Boston.
Milwaukee on the moneyline at around -130 completes Sunday's five-play MLB Best Bets card.
MLB Best Bets for August 23
Our five remaining MLB Best Bets for Sunday are Cleveland, Boston, Chicago, San Diego and Milwaukee on the moneyline.
- Cleveland Guardians moneyline around -170 vs. Colorado Rockies
- Boston Red Sox moneyline around -220 vs. San Francisco Giants
- Chicago Cubs moneyline around -110 at Seattle Mariners
- San Diego Padres moneyline around -140 vs. Minnesota Twins
- Milwaukee Brewers moneyline around -130 vs. Atlanta Braves
The Cubs offer the closest thing to a pick'em price, while Boston carries the heaviest favorite tax. Cleveland and San Diego sit in the middle, and Milwaukee gives the card a Sunday night closer in Williamsport.
