MLB Best Bets for September 8
- Houston Astros Moneyline +125 vs. Philadelphia Phillies
- New York Yankees -1.5 (-140) vs. Colorado Rockies
- Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (+100) vs. Chicago Cubs
The card gives us one plus-money underdog, one strong home favorite on the run line and one even-money division run-line play rather than paying heavy moneyline prices across the board.
Astros +125 vs. Phillies
Best Bet: Houston Astros Moneyline (+125)
Houston is an underdog Tuesday despite having the more favorable starting-pitching numbers.
Hayden Wesneski enters 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA for the Astros.
Philadelphia counters with Andrew Painter, who is 3-8 with a 5.55 ERA.
That gap is the center of the Astros vs. Phillies prediction.
Philadelphia is the better team by overall record at 81-63, but Houston does not need to be better over six months to cash this wager. It needs Wesneski to give the Astros the better start in one game.
The market is still offering Houston around +125 against a starter carrying an ERA north of 5.50.
That is enough to make the Astros the most attractive plus-money play on Tuesday's W&W card.
Houston also enters the night with Jose Altuve sitting on 2,499 career hits, giving the Astros another storyline as they open the series at Citizens Bank Park.
Pick: Astros ML +125

Yankees -1.5 vs. Rockies
Best Bet: New York Yankees -1.5 (-140)
The Yankees have the largest straight-up price of our three featured games, so the run line is the better way to approach Colorado.
New York is roughly -330 on the moneyline.
The -1.5 run line is available around -140.
The pitching matchup explains the gap.
Cam Schlittler enters 12-6 with a 2.04 ERA and 0.94 WHIP.
Colorado sends Gabriel Hughes to the mound at 0-6 with a 6.19 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.
Read the full Rockies vs. Yankees prediction for the complete matchup breakdown.
The Yankees are 81-62 and still chasing Tampa Bay in the AL East.
Colorado is 55-88.
Tuesday also marks Aaron Judge's return to the active roster after he missed 84 games with a rib stress fracture.
Judge's return does not guarantee an immediate offensive explosion, but it strengthens a lineup that already enters the game with the much stronger record and starting-pitching matchup.
Paying more than -300 on the moneyline leaves little room for value.
Backing New York to win by at least two runs gives us a more usable price.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-140)
Brewers -1.5 vs. Cubs
Best Bet: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (+100)
Milwaukee's moneyline is priced above -200.
The run line is sitting around even money.
That makes the -1.5 the more attractive expression of the Brewers' pitching advantage.
Jacob Misiorowski enters Tuesday with a 1.97 ERA and 227 strikeouts.
Chicago counters with David Peterson and his 5.39 ERA.
Milwaukee also took Monday's series opener 4-3, improving to 89-56.
The Cubs fell to 81-64.
W&W's full Cubs vs. Brewers prediction points directly to the starting-pitching gap and Milwaukee's strong home run-line profile.
Misiorowski gives the Brewers a chance to build a lead before the middle innings.
Peterson gives Milwaukee's lineup an opportunity to create early traffic.
At around +100, Milwaukee only needs to turn that advantage into a two-run victory without asking bettors to lay a premium moneyline.
Pick: Brewers -1.5 (+100)
