MLS Best Bets for Saturday, September 12th
Saturday's MLS schedule gives bettors a deep late-night card, but the strongest MLS Best Bets for September 12 do not require chasing every match on the board.
We built this card from the same-day Winners & Whiners MLS inventory and kept the focus on three home moneylines whose current prices remain close to the original recommendations.
- Columbus Crew ML -130 vs Red Bull New York
- FC Dallas ML -120 vs Portland Timbers
- San Jose Earthquakes ML +145 vs Houston Dynamo

Columbus remains one of the cleaner home-side positions on Saturday's early MLS window.
Winners & Whiners originally recommended Columbus Crew -124, and the market has only moved modestly against that entry point.
The Crew's advantage comes from the overall balance of the matchup.
Columbus enters with the better defensive process, while Red Bull New York has allowed too much quality once opponents break the initial press.
W&W's current numbers have Columbus allowing roughly 1.26 expected goals per 90 minutes compared with approximately 1.93 for New York.
That defensive gap becomes especially important on a short turnaround. Both teams played Wednesday, which can make sustained pressing more difficult and increase the value of the team that can control possession without constantly turning the match into a transition battle.
Home field also supports the Crew's case.
New York still wants to force turnovers, win second balls and create short possessions high up the field. Columbus has the technical quality to make that pressure expensive if the Crew consistently play through the first line.
The current price is slightly higher than W&W's original -124 recommendation, but the change is not significant enough to invalidate the handicap.

Best Bet: Columbus Crew ML -130
MLS Best Bet: FC Dallas ML -120 vs Portland Timbers
Current moneyline: FC Dallas approximately -120
FC Dallas is the second home side on Saturday's card.
Winners & Whiners originally found Dallas at approximately -109. The market has shortened the price slightly, but the moneyline remains close enough to the original number to keep the wager viable.
Dallas enters Saturday trying to win a third consecutive match.
The club beat Minnesota United 2-1 on Wednesday and now returns to Toyota Stadium against a Portland side that also had to play during the midweek MLS slate.
The matchup favors Dallas in two important areas.
First, W&W gives the home side the cleaner two-way profile. Dallas has been more reliable balancing chance creation with defensive structure, while Portland has shown greater volatility.
Second, the Texas conditions add another layer to a short-rest game.
Both clubs have limited recovery time, but Dallas avoids the travel burden and gets to play in familiar conditions at home.
The broader series history also favors the home side. Dallas has been particularly difficult for Portland to beat at Toyota Stadium.
At approximately -120, bettors are paying a little more than the original W&W price without moving into the kind of heavy favorite range that would materially change the risk-reward calculation.

Best Bet: FC Dallas ML -120
MLS Best Bet: San Jose Earthquakes ML +145 vs Houston Dynamo
Current moneyline: San Jose Earthquakes +145
San Jose provides the plus-money play on Saturday's Best Bets card.
Winners & Whiners recommended the Earthquakes +145, and that price remains available in the current market.
The appeal comes from San Jose's attacking ceiling.
The Earthquakes continue to produce one of the stronger attacking processes on the MLS board, and W&W believes the current home price gives enough compensation for a matchup that is much closer than the moneyline might initially suggest.
Houston cannot be dismissed.
The Dynamo enter after a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake, while Guilherme and Mateusz Bogusz both earned MLS Team of the Matchday recognition following strong performances.
That recent form is part of the reason San Jose remains available at plus money.
The handicap is therefore about price rather than claiming a major talent gap.
San Jose gets the match at PayPal Park, has enough attacking quality to put Houston's defensive shape under pressure and still offers approximately +145 despite playing at home.
Unlike the two favorites above, the Earthquakes do not have to win especially often for a +145 price to become attractive.
That makes San Jose the higher-variance position on the card, but also the wager with the largest potential return.

Why These Three MLS Moneyline Picks?
Saturday's Winners & Whiners inventory includes sides, totals and even a price-driven draw position.
The purpose of a Best Bets article is not to reproduce every recommendation.
Columbus, Dallas and San Jose create a cleaner three-match card because all three wagers attack the same market: the home moneyline.
Columbus offers the stronger defensive profile.
Dallas combines home field, current form and the cleaner two-way matchup.
San Jose gives the card a plus-money position backed by one of the better attacking processes on the slate.
Most importantly, the current prices remain reasonably close to the numbers attached to the original W&W recommendations.

MLS Best Bets for September 12
Our three W&W-supported plays for Saturday are:
- Columbus Crew ML -130
- FC Dallas ML -120
- San Jose Earthquakes ML +145
The common thread is home-field value without chasing a number that has already moved too far away from the original handicap.
Columbus and Dallas give the card two manageable favorites, while San Jose adds a plus-money opportunity later in the night.
With most of Saturday's MLS teams working on short rest, confirmed lineups and late price movement will matter more than usual.
