The Stanley Cup Finals are about to begin and it should be a good one. The Capitals have been knocked out in the 2nd round of the playoffs in each of the last three years. It has been a different story for them this season, with them taking out the Lightning in game seven on the road. The Caps will be playing in just their 2nd ever Stanley Cup Finals. The first time was back in 1997/98 season. They lost in the finals to Detroit in four games. The Golden Knights are in their first year of existence, so they have really shocked everyone by making it this far. They got here by taking out the Jets in five games. No matter who wins the Stanley Cup, we will be crowning a first-time champ. The Golden Knights are favored at -137 to win the series.
Prop bets are a huge part of sports, especially in finals and the NHL is no different. I will take a look at what I feel are the best three bets for this series, but first I will take a quick look at the teams themselves. Washington has been one of the best offensive teams in the postseason, but they have also played well at the other end of the ice and they did blank the high-powered Lightning in the last two games of that series. The Golden Knights have not been great on offense in the postseason, but they have been very stingy in the crease as they have allowed just 1.80 gpg so far in the postseason. Braden Holtby is a solid goalie, but Marc-Andre Fleury has been in the finals before and he actually has four rings, so his experience is a huge plus for the Golden Knights and it gives hime a big edge over Holtby.
Now onto the bets.
Vegas to win game one and the series.
The Odds for this are at +140 (Betonline.com). Vegas has surprised all year so far and they have really turned it on in the postseason. The Capitals have a good offense but the experience that the Golden Knights have in the crease will be the difference in this game. Marc-Andre Fleury was let go by the Penguins in the offseason after playing his entire career there and he has been playing with a chip on his shoulder all year long. The Golden Knights are the better team and I look for them to take game one and eventually the series.
Over 5.5 games for the series
This one is a bit pricey at -175, but I still feel that it is a solid play. Both of these teams have been very good home teams this year and we could very well see each team holding serve at home all series long. The Golden Knights are 35-13 here in their home games for the year, while the Capitals have gone 32-18 in their home games for the year. I cannot see how this series doesn’t at least go six games.
Alex Ovechkin Under 3.5 goals for the series
The odds for this one are at -130. Ovechkin has been one of the best goal scorers in the history of the league and he has scored 12 goals in the postseason this year, but he has yet to face a goalie the caliber of Marc-Andre Fleury in these playoffs. Fleury has been very strong so far with a 1.68 GAA in the playoffs so far and I just don’t see any player putting up more than three goals on him in this series.
These are my three best bets for the Stanley Cup Finals and I hope that they all cash for you. This has a chance to be a very good series and I for one am excited about it, so sit back an enjoy and hopefully you will cash some tickets as well.
