The tilt between Sweden and England will be played at the Cosmos Arena in Samara on July 7th. The Blue-Yellow is one of two most pleasant surprises alongside Russia at the World Cup as nobody expected them to come this far, and they will play without a pressure which can be their biggest strength in this duel.
Sweden vs. England
Three-Way: 1: Sweden +380; X: +225 Draw; 2: England -105
Spread +0.5: Sweden -101; England -106
Total 2.5 goals: Over +175; Under -222
Sweden wasn’t expected to top the group with the reigning champions and Mexico, but even though they suffered a late defeat to the Germans, they bounced back in a 3-0 victory over the Tricolor and finished in the first place with six points. They were slight underdogs in the Round of 16 match against Switzerland and despite the Red Crossed had more shots and ball possession, the Swedes were more concrete in front of the goal and secured a minimal win through Emil Forsberg’s deflected shot that tricked Yann Sommer. Sweden’s chances to win the World Cup are now +2500, while the Blue-Yellow is +700 to reach the finals.
The Three Lions met expectations with six points out of the first two games at the tournament and unlike in the past, they secured a spot in the Round of 16 before the third game in the group. England faced the first real test against Belgium, but Gareth Southgate opted to field a weakened team as he was not interested in collecting three points in that clash, so England could have a relatively easier job in the second phase of the World Cup. Colombia almost upset them in the Round of 16, but England finally broke the penalty shootout curse despite not being in a good position at one point during the shootout. England’s chances to win the World Cup are now +450, while the Three Lions are +150 to reach the finals.
England is a favorite at -105 and while they are expected to make it to the semis, Sweden can be more relaxed and wait for their chance on the center and from set-pieces. Although the Three Lions have excellent jumpers, they conceded a goal from the corner against Colombia, so it is not excluded that happens again on this one. However, I believe the Englishmen have a better team and after making it this far, I don’t think they will be stopped by Sweden.
The Pick: England to win (-105)
