The tilt between Switzerland and Costa Rica will be played at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Novgorod on June 27th. The Swiss need a point to secure their place in the knockout phase, and even though the Ticos are already eliminated, they could cause a shock on this one, so Switzerland must be extra careful.
Switzerland vs. Costa Rica
Three-Way: 1: Switzerland -152; X: +260 Draw; 2: Costa Rica +600
Spread -1: Switzerland +116; Costa Rica -137
Total 2.5 goals: Over +120; Under -147
The Red Crosses came from behind to beat Serbia 2-1, but it was a tough start of the tilt for them as Aleksandar Mitrovic gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead in the 5th minute with an excellent header. Switzerland focused on defending their goals in the first half rather than attacking, but they completely changed the strategy in the second 45 minutes.
Granit Xhaka was lucky enough to be the closest to a rebound and hit the ball with his left foot to equalize in the 52nd minute as Vladimir Stojkovic couldn’t react to pull off the save to his far post. The Arsenal’s midfielder goal helped those who backed BTTS at +100 to make the profit and Switzerland was a better side in the second half, but unlike Serbia, they were happy with a draw and tried to hit them on the break.
They succeeded in that intent in the 90th minute when Mario Gavranovic picked out Xherdan Shaqiri who was faster than Dusko Tosic and beat Stojkovic with his left foot to complete a comeback and bring enormous joy to the punters who bet on the Swiss to win at +200 and to those who had over 2.5 goals at +140. Switzerland’s chances to win the World Cup are now +5000, while the Red Crosses are +120 to reach the quarter-finals.
The Ticos fought bravely to keep Brazil from scoring but they failed in injury time as Philippe Coutinho and Neymar scored to defeat them, 2-0. Nobody expected Costa Rica to do anything against the Selecao, but once again, they showed great unity and excellent defending; however, the determined Brazilians secured a late victory.
Costa Rica wasn’t dangerous on the other end as they failed to attempt a single shot on target, but Keylor Navas and five men in front of him defended well until the final minutes, and it’s a shame that they were eliminated in such way, but it has to be said that Brazil deserved three points. The Ticos are eliminated after this loss but will try to score the first goal at the World Cup in a tilt with Switzerland.
Switzerland decides their own future here and they are the favorites to win, but the Ticos will not go without a fight and they will be highly motivated to leave Russia with at least one goal as they are currently the only team who didn’t score at the World Cup. That’s why I wouldn’t go with the Swiss’ win and I’ll pick Costa Rica not to lose by more than a goal.
The Pick: Costa Rica AH +1 (-137)
