CF Montreal vs. Atlanta United FC Prediction, Preview, and Odds - 10/2/21

CF Montreal vs. Atlanta

Atlanta is in good form as of late for a playoff push and they head north of the border to take on a Montreal team that has lost their last two matches.

Atlanta is coming off a win and they have won three of their last four matches. They sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference two points clear of Montreal. While in good form in the last few matches they have only scored one goal in their last two matches after scoring seven in two.

Montreal was beaten badly in their last match and they could use a win at home in this one to improve their playoff push. They are in the same boat as Atlanta, as in their last two matches they have only scored two goals while in their previous two they found the back of the net six times.

The Century Mark Does the Trick

In their last match, Atlanta was at home and they beat Inter Miami 1-0 where Josef Martinez scored his 100th career goal. The goal came on a penalty and Atlanta should have scored at least one more time, as they dominated the time of possession (62% to 38%), outshot Miami 19-7, and had seven shots on target while not giving up any. In the two matches Atlanta has played this season with Montreal they won the first one at7 home and played to a 2-2 draw the last time facing them, which was on the road.

Martinez leads the club with 10 goals on the season and he has scored four goals in his last three matches. Marcelino Moreno and Ezequiel Barco, who also leads the team with five assists, have each scored seven goals while no other player has scored more than two. MF Franco Ibarra is out for the Montreal match with an injury.

Can’t Beat the Best

Montreal was at home in their last match losing 4-1 to a New England Revolution club that has, by far, the most points in the MLS. The team was down 3-0 before Joaquín Torres scored the lone goal in the contest, where they actually won the time of possession, barely, and had just as many shots on target (7). Montreal has had 11 shots on goal in the last two matches and only two goals to show for it.

Mayson Toye leads CF with seven goals and has one goal in his last five matches. Romell Quioto ranks second on the team with six goals and Djordje Mihailovic leads them with 10 assists and has three of them in his last four matches. DF Aljaz Struna and MF Robert Orri Thorkelsson have both been ruled out for the Atlanta match with injury concerns.

Pick: Atlanta +195

Atlanta has been playing well as of late winning three of their last four matches but they have only scored one goal in their last two. The team has a strong midfield and is good up front but they have not been able to take advantage of scoring chances in their last two matches. Montreal was beaten badly at home in their last match and they look for their first win against Atlanta in this one in their third try. While they won their last match on their home pitch, they dropped their previous two there. Atlanta is in better form and I look for them to turn it around in this one and turn scoring chances into goals. They will score multiple goals in this one and win sending Montreal to their third straight loss.

Total: Over 2.5

I am leaning towards the Over in this match even though Atlanta and Montreal have been less than stellar on the attack as of late. Atlanta has scored one goal, which was on a penalty, in their last two matches and Montreal has scored one goal in each of their last two matches. Atlanta has simply not done much with their scoring chances as of late even though they have had quite a few. They will come through in this match in the scoring department netting at least two goals against an FC club that gave up four goals in their last match. Montreal has scored three goals in the two matches with Atlanta this season and they will not get shut out on their home pitch. Add that to Atlanta scoring multiple goals and you get the Over for this Eastern Conference affair.
