Colorado Rapids vs. Minnesota United FC Prediction, Preview and Odds - 5/8/21

Colorado Rapids vs. Minnesota United FC

The Round 4 of the new MLS season is ahead this weekend, and we have an interesting duel between the Western Conference rivals Colorado Rapids and Minnesota United FC. The game starts at 10 PM EST at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

Colorado wants to repeat the previous result

Colorado Rapids has only scored two goals in their first three games, with a vital one being scored by Diego Rubio in their last matchup to seal a 1-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps. In that match, the Rapids managed 43% possession and 16 attempts at goal with six on target. The start of the season has been a mixed bag for Colorado, who shared the spoils with Dallas and lost to Austin, before getting their first win last weekend.

Sam Vines, Lalas Abubakar, Braian Galván, and Steven Beitashour won’t be available for the Rapids manager Robin Fraser for this encounter.

Minnesota looks for its first points of the season

After being defeated 1-0 in their last matchup by Austin FC in MLS Week 3, Minnesota United is hoping to turn things around here. In that game, the Loons managed 44% possession and 13 attempts at goal, with only two of them on target. They have had the worst possible start to this year's campaign as three consecutive defeats have left Minnesota sitting rock-bottom of the MLS, having managed to score just one goal in 2-1 defeat to Salt Lake in Gameweek two.

Minnesota United manager Adrian Heath has several players out of action. Ike Opara (Concussion), Bakaye Dibassy (Hamstring Injury), and Niko Hansen (Hamstring Injury) will miss this clash.

Side:Colorado Rapids (-120)

Colorado Rapids vs. Minnesota United head-to-head record shows that of the nine meetings they have had, Colorado has won in three of those games, while Minnesota has four victories. Two fixtures have ended as a draw. The last matchup between two teams took place in November 2020 and ended with a 3-0 win for Minnesota United FC. But the Loons do not seem to be at their sharpest at the start of the season, with the team losing to all Seattle, Real Salt Lake, and Austin, and that is probably the main reason why the home win should be considered. It has to be noted that Minnesota United has never defeated Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Total: UNDER +130

Colorado Rapids have been strong defensively, with William Yarbrough registering two clean sheets in three games from the start of the season. On the other hand, attacker Robin Lod scored Minnesota's only goal of the campaign so far, and the single goal the side has managed means that they are the lowest scorers in the Western Conference. It doesn't seem that we will see many goals here, and therefore my prediction for this tight clash will be the Under.
