Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea Prediction, 7/7/20

Having lost their last three Premier League contests without scoring a goal, 14th-placed Crystal Palace will be trying to get back on track with a home outing against 4th-placed Chelsea, who have won six of their last seven games in all comps. Kick-off - at 13:00 PM ET on Tuesday, July 7.

Palace Lose Third In Row

The losing streak of Crystal Palace stretched out to three consecutive games after the team was shut out with a count of 3-0 by Leicester City away at King Power Stadium on Saturday. The Eagles were outshot 15-7 and managed to deliver just a single shot on target courtesy of defender Gary Cahill, as the hosts eventually scored three times in the second half. After winning four EPL games in a row without conceding a goal, Crystal Palace has now been blanked in three successive contests, being outscored 8-0. The team is 14th in the league (W11 D9 L13), trailing the top-seven by seven points.

Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew tops his team’s scoring chart with nine league markers but has failed to get on the scoreboard for the last three games. Goalie Vicente Guaita, meanwhile, sits 8th in England’s top tier with 93 saves this year. He has recorded 10 clean sheets in 30 outings this season and allows a goal every 84 minutes on average. Crystal Palace have scored the 2nd lowest amount of goals during the ongoing campaign (28), while delivering the 2nd lowest quantity of shots per game (9.7). The team is 15th in ball possession (46.2%) and 14th in passing accuracy (76.1%).

Chelsea Beat Watford

An immediate recovery from a loss was on the cards for Chelsea, who followed up last Wednesday’s unexpected 3-2 fiasco at West Ham United with a 3-0 home beat-down of Watford at Stamford Bridge three days later. Willian became the first Blues’ player to score a penalty in three consecutive Premier League games after making it 2-0 following Olivier Giroud’s 28th-minute opener. Ross Barkley rounded off the scoring in injury time, helping Chelsea to register their fourth straight home triumph. The team is 4th in the league (W17 D6 L10), two points above 5th-placed Manchester United, trailing 3rd-placed Leicester City by a single point.

With 13 Premier League strikes under his belt this season, English striker Tammy Abraham leads Chelsea in scoring. He has not netted a single marker for eight straight league contests, though. Goalie Kepa Arrizabalaga, meanwhile, is 21st in the EPL with 50 saves. He has picked up seven clean sheets in 29 matches this year and concedes a goal every 71 minutes of play. Chelsea has buried the 4th highest number of goals during the ongoing campaign (60) while taking the 2nd highest amount of shots per game (16.8). The team is 3rd in ball possession (57.6%) and 2nd in passing accuracy (85.1%).

Prediction

Chelsea has been in excellent form lately. Their unexpected 3-2 defeat at West Ham United aside, the team has won four games in all competitions since the restart of English soccer, following up two more triumphs just before the coronavirus lockdown. The Blues have beaten Crystal Palace in their very last four Premier League meetings, earning clean sheets in the very last two. In fact, five of the last seven wins of Chelsea against the Eagles have seen Crystal Palace shoot blanks, with the South London club also failing to register a single goal in five of its previous six defeats in the league. Expect another good day for Chelsea!
