DC United vs. FC Cincinnati

The 2021 MLS betting action continues Saturday, September 25, so we’re taking a closer look at the Eastern Conference showdown from Audi Field in Washington, D.C., bringing you the best DC United vs. FC Cincinnati betting pick and tips. These two foes meet for the second time this term after a goalless draw at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati on the last day of July.

The Black and Red eye their third straight home win

DC United is coming off a 3-2 defeat at Atlanta United last weekend, tallying its fourth loss over the last seven games overall. The Black and Red fell to the eighth spot of the Eastern Conference standings, trailing the No. 7 seed by a point.

Through their first 25 games of the season, the Black and Red have recorded ten wins, four draws, and 11 losses along with a 41:36 goal difference. They own the fourth-highest scoring offense in the East, but their defense is one of the worst in the MLS. At least, DC United has won six of its previous seven home contests, allowing only five goals in the process.

The 31-year-old striker Ola Kamara leads the way for the Black and Red with 16 goals in 19 appearances. He’s found the net in six of his previous nine outings while tallying a couple of dishes along the way. Striker Yordy Reyna has accounted for four goals and three assists in 14 games, while midfielder Julian Gressel is the team’s best assist-maker with five dimes in 25 apps.

The Orange and Blue look to avoid their third consecutive defeat

FC Cincinnati is coming off a 2-1 home loss to New York City this past Saturday. It was their second defeat on the spin and fifth over the last six outings along with a 2-0 home win to the hapless Toronto FC.

The Orange and Blue have been terrible for a while, recording only one win over their previous 15 games overall to go with seven defeats and seven draws. It’s not strange they are sitting at the 13th spot of the Eastern Conference standings with 20 points (W4, D8, L12) and a 24:44 goal difference.

The 21-year-old Brazilian striker Brenner leads the charge for Cincinnati with seven goals in 24 appearances, and he’s found the net in four of his previous eight outings. Winger Alvaro Barreal has three goals and three assists on his tally, while midfielder Luciano Acosta is Cincinnati’s top assist-maker with six dishes in 22 apps.

The Pick:DC United to Win

The odds are not attractive, but the hosts to win at -180 should be a slam dunk. DC United is fighting for the playoff spot and desperately needs a win here. The Black and Red have won six of their last seven tilts at home and shouldn’t have any problems outlasting the slumping Cincinnati team.

The Orange and Blue are riding a three-game losing streak on the road. Also, they’ve dropped five of their previous six road contests along with a goalless draw at the New York Red Bulls.

Total:Over 2.5 Goals

Considering all the defensive flaws on both sides, we should see at least three goals in total. Interestingly, three of the last four encounters between DC United and FC Cincinnati were ended in a nil-nil stalemate, while the other saw DC United grabbing a 2-1 victory on the road.

I think there’s no way this one will be finished in a goalless draw. DC United kept its net intact only once in its last nine outings at any location, while FC Cincinnati has yielded a whopping 19 goals over its previous six showings on the road.
