FC Dallas vs. Portland Timbers Prediction, Preview and Odds - 5/1/21

FC Dallas will be trying to pick up their first win of the year when they face the Portland Timbers on Saturday night. FC Dallas is coming off a 3-1 loss to San Jose. Portland is coming off a 2-1 win over Houston in their last league game.

Both teams are 3-4-3 in their last 10 meetings.

FC Dallas Trying To Bounce Back From Loss

FC Dallas followed up their tie with the defending champions with an ugly 3-1 loss in their last game. They will try to bounce back from the loss with a win over the Timbers, which will give them their first win of the season.

They played well in the first half against the Earthquakes, finishing with a 1-1 tie, but fell apart in the second half and couldn’t fight their way back into the game. They finished the game with 46 percent of the possession, converted 82.2 percent of their passes and had four of their eight shots on target, but managed only one goal.

Ricardo Pepi scored the lone goal for FC Dallas, who have scored only one goal in two games.

Jimmy Maurer gave up three goals in the game, leading to him getting replaced in the 61st minute by Phelipe. He is expected to get the start on Saturday. He has a 64-51-41 record and 55 clean sheets in 156 games.

Portland Going For Second Consecutive League Win

The Timbers bounced back from their 1-0 loss to Vancouver with a win over Houston in their next game. They played a 1-1 draw with América in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday and will try to pick up their second straight league win when they play on Saturday.

Portland had 47 percent possession against the Dynamo, but they were very aggressive offensively, taking 23 shots. With only five of those shots on target, they finished the game with 21.7 percent shot accuracy. They completed 80.5 percent of their passes against the Dynamo.

Dairon Asprilla and Cristhian Paredes did the scoring for the Timber.

Portland played well defensively, giving up one goal in the win. They have given up two goals in two games. Jeff Attinella has done a good job for the Timbers. He has a 73.8 save percentage and a 52-33-50 record in 135 starts.

Side: Draw +265

Other than the team managing not to lose to Columbus in their first game, FC Dallas has not looked good so far, especially on the offensive end, with one goal in two games. Portland has played well defensively, but they didn’t play well offensively in their last road game, so there’s not a lot of confidence there as well. With both teams finishing in a tie more times than they have won the game in their last 10 meetings, another tie makes a lot of sense here.

Total: Under 3

The Timbers and FC Dallas haven’t scored a lot of goals this season with both teams combining for three goals in four games. Dallas looked good in its last home game, shutting out Columbus, while Portland was shut out in their last road game. They are both averaging one goal per game in their last three games, so don’t expect them to go over the total in this game.
