German Bundesliga - Freiburg vs. Hertha Berlin - Preview & Prediction

Officially safe from relegation this season, 11th-placed Hertha Berlin will try to improve their position in the standings while paying a visit to 8th-placed Freiburg, who have still not given up on their hopes to finish in the top-six. Kick-off - at 14:30 PM ET on Tuesday, June 16.

Freiburg Split Points With Wolfsburg

Freiburg failed to take an opportunity to edge closer to the 6th-placed finish this season after drawing 2-2 against the current 6th-place occupants Wolfsburg at Volkswagen Arena on Saturday. The visitors saw the Wolves score four times in the first half-an-hour of the match, with two strikes, canceled out by VAR, before Lucas Holer and Roland Sallai netted for the Black Forest club to keep it unbeaten for the second straight game (W1 D1). Freiburg remain 8th in the Bundesliga with a W11 D9 L11 record, trailing Wolfsburg for a top-six finish by four points.

German forward Nils Petersen leads Freiburg with 10 markers, with Holer sitting 2nd with six. Goalie Alexander Schwolow, meanwhile, is 11th in the saves chart, having stopped 79 shots thus far this season. He has picked up four clean sheets in 22 appearances and concedes a goal every 68 minutes on average. Freiburg has netted the 11th highest quantity of Bundesliga goals this term (41) while posting the 9th highest number of shots per game (13). The team is 11th in ball possession (48.3%) and 8th in passing accuracy (77.9%).

Hertha Berlin Lose Second Straight

Hertha Berlin were forced to accept their second consecutive defeat after being beaten with a score of 4-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt at Olympiastadion on Saturday. Things started well for the hosts, who opened the scoring in the 24th minute of the match, with Krzysztof Piatek netting his third snipe in his last four appearances. A first-half injury-time red card for Dedryck Boyata, though, meant the Old Lady had to reshuffle its troops for the last 45 minutes of the game, during which the visitors scored on four occasions. Hertha Berlin have dropped to the 10th place in the league (W10 D8 L13), trailing the top-six by eight points with three games remaining.

Belgian-Congolese winger Dodi Lukebakio still leads the Old Lady with six snipes despite having netted just once in his last nine Bundesliga contests. Goalie Rune Jarstein, meanwhile, is 3rd in most saves, having stopped 99 shots this year. He has recorded eight clean sheets in 27 league appearances this season and allows a goal every 54 minutes of play. Hertha Berlin are 8th in most goals buried during the ongoing campaign (44), bottom of the league in most shots delivered per game (10.6), 13th in ball possession (46.7%) and 12th in passing accuracy (77.5%).

Prediction

After going unbeaten for six straight games (W3 D3), Hertha Berlin has lost its past two decisions. They did, however, look a considerable threat in the 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on June 6, while dropping their Saturday’s matchup versus Eintracht Frankfurt (4-1), playing half of the game with just 10 men. Freiburg is a stingy proposition, currently still battling for a top-six finish. Still, the Black Forest club has lost two of its past three domestic contests (W1 L2), so the Old Lady can definitely hope for at least a draw, which has already been registered in seven of the last 13 Bundesliga meetings between the two teams. Besides, no more than two goals have been netted in seven of the previous 11 encounters between Freiburg and Hertha Berlin, so bank on this one to end on low-scoring terms as well!

Best bet:

Draw (+250)

Under 2.5 goals (+100)
