German Bundesliga Soccer - Augsburg vs. RB Leipzig, 6/27/20 - Preview, Prediction & Odds

RB Leipzig will try to finish the Bundesliga season in their current 3rd place while paying a visit to Augsburg, who will remain in Germany’s top-flight for another year. Kick-off - at 9:30 AM ET on Saturday, June 27.

Augsburg Draw In Dusseldorf

Augsburg will officially remain in the Bundesliga for another season after earning a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf away at Merkur Spiel-Arena last Saturday. Florian Niederlechner scored for Die Fuggerstadter just after 10 minutes of play, matching Augsburg’s all-time Bundesliga scoring record of 13 snipes, set by Michael Gregoritsch in 2017-18. The Bavarian club has now gone W1 D3 L2 in its last six contests and sits 15th in the league with a W9 D9 L15 record. The team has not finished higher than 12th in Germany’s top-flight for the past four seasons since qualifying for the Europa League with a 5th-placed finish in 2014-15.

Niederlechner’s 13 goals and six assists top Augsburg’s scoring chart, with Philipp Max sitting 2nd in it with eight snipes and six helpers. Goalie Andreas Luthe, meanwhile, is 26th in the Bundesliga with 26 saves. He has recorded three clean sheets in 10 games this year and concedes a goal every 75 minutes on average. Augsburg have netted the 11th highest quantity of strikes during the current campaign (44), while taking the absolute lowest amount of shots per game (10.8). The team is bottom of the league in both ball possession (41.3%) and passing accuracy (69.8%).

Leipzig Lose To Dortmund

The chances of RB Leipzig finishing 2nd in the Bundesliga this year were dashed after the team dropped a 2-0 decision against 2nd-placed Borussia Dortmund at home at Red Bull Arena last Saturday. The hosts outshot BVB 16-11, but forced the first save only at the end of the first half, with Timo Werner’s shot stopped after the visitors were already 1-0 up. Despite having won just one of their past four contests (W1 D2 L1), the Red Bulls, currently sitting 3rd (W17 D12 L4), are almost guaranteed a top-four finish even in the case of a defeat against Augsburg, with 5th-placed Bayer Leverkusen needing to score close to 30 goals in their last match to overtake RB Leipzig for a spot in the next season’s Champions League.

German forward Timo Werner, who is set to join Chelsea next season, leads RB Leipzig with 26 Bundesliga markers this year and tops the team’s all-time scoring chart with 93 career snipes. Goalie Peter Gulacsi, meanwhile, occupies the 8th place in the Bundesliga, having stopped 92 shots. He has picked up 10 clean sheets in 32 outings this season and allows a goal every 85 minutes on average. The Red Bulls have scored the 3rd highest quantity of goals during the ongoing campaign (79), while delivering the 2nd highest number of shots per game (16.2). The team is 4th in both ball possession (53.9%) and passing accuracy (82.5%).

Prediction

Even though RB Leipzig’s recent home form has been shocking, leaving the team without a win for six straight domestic fixtures (D5 L1), its road escapades have told a different story, with the Red Bulls currently riding a three-game winning run away from their own turf. In fact, the team has lost just two away games in the Bundesliga throughout the whole season (W10 D4 L2) and will be visiting a side, which has gone winless in six straight domestic contests (D3 L3). Unbeaten against Augsburg in their last five meetings in all competitions (W3 D2), expect RB Leipzig to finish the season on a high, albeit without a clean sheet, having posted just one in their previous six league games.

Best bet:

RB Leipzig to win and both teams to score (+140)

Florian Niederlechner to score anytime (+250)
