Inter Miami CF vs. Philadelphia Union, Prediction, Preview and Odds -7/25/21

Inter Miami is in the basement of the Eastern Conference, and they play host to a Philadelphia team that is coming off a loss.

The Union are not in top form, as they are coming off a loss and are 1-2-2 in their last five matches. They are still in third place in the East seven points out of first place. While the attack for Philly has been a less than dynamic one on the season their defense has been more than solid only conceding 15 goals in 15 matches.

Inter Miami is in the bottom of the Eastern table and in their last six matches they have six losses. The main reason for the woes for the club has been an “attack” that has tallied nine goals in 14 matches.

Much More Shots Don’t Mean Much

In their last match Philadelphia was on the road losing to Orlando where they had much more shots but still took the loss. Kacper Przybylko scored the lone goal for the Union in the match where they outshot Orlando 18-5 and 6-2 on shots on target. Previous to their last match Philly had not given up more than one goal in three straight matches.

Przybylko has tickled the twine in two straight matches and leads the Union with five goals and Cory Burke has four goals. Jamiro Monteiro leads the team with four assists. G Andre Blake and Burke are out for this match due to international duty. The Union only have one win on the road this season and that was in their first road match in early May.

Not the Best Home Showing

Inter Miami was at home in their last match where they failed to put on a good show for their home fans in a bad 5-0 loss to the New England Revolution. Both the time of possession and overall shots were pretty even but Inter only had one shot on target while the Revolution had 11. Inter has really struggled in the midfield and that has been a big reason they have failed to generate scoring chances.

Gonzalo Higuaín leads Miami with five goals and no other player for the club has more than one goal. Federico Higuaín and Gregore are tied for the team lead with two assists apiece. Inter is winless at home this season and in their six matches on their pitch they have five losses and a draw.

Pick: Philadelphia +200

The Union are not in good form as of late but is there any better time to face the club that is in the bottom of the Eastern Conference? Inter has struggled all season and in their last match they were at home and crushed 5-0. They are winless at home on the season with five losses and one draw and they will not get their first home W against Philly. The Union have a better midfield and a good defense and that is not good for Miami, who have only mustered nine goals in 12 matches. Inter will put up a fight at home but the Union have too much talent on the pitch, and they will get the W in this Eastern Conference encounter.

Total: Over 2.5 goals

I am leaning towards the Over in this match even though the Union attack has been less than stellar as of late. I think they will break out of their offensive slump facing a Miami team that was lit up for five goals in their last match. Previous to the last match the Inter defense was not bad but I see Philly getting the upper hand in the midfield and generating many scoring chances like Miami’s opponent had in their last match. I do not look for a 5-0 drubbing again but there will be goals in this game, mainly from the Union, which is why the Over is the pick.
