New England Revolution vs. Atlanta United FC Prediction. Preview and Odds - 5/1/21

The Round 3 of the new MLS season is ahead this weekend, and we have an interesting duel between the Eastern Conference rivals New England Revolution and Atlanta United FC. The game starts at 7 PM EST at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

New England is looking for another win

The New England Revolution is hoping for another triumph after a 1-0 win over D.C. United in MLS Week 2. In that match, New England had 49% possession and six shots on goal with two on target. Brendan Hines-Ike scored the game's only goal, and it was in his own net. The Revs earned four points in their first two games this season.

For the upcoming matchup, nearly everyone is up for selection, with just one fitness concern for New England's manager Bruce Arena to dispute. Luis Caicedo (leg) is out of contention.

Atlanta hopes to continue the tradition

Since Atlanta United joined MLS as an expansion team in 2017, they have never lost to the Revs. The Five Stripes head into this meeting after a 3-1 win against the Chicago Fire in their previous match. In that game, Atlanta United had 61% possession and 18 attempts at goal with six on target. Goals were scored by Ezequiel Barco, Johan Kappelhof (own goal) and Emerson Hyndman. The only player on the scoresheet for Chicago was Luka Stojanović. They have collected four points so far.

Atlanta United manager Gabriel Heinze has to contend with several injured players. Mo Adams (pubalgia), Matheus Rossetto (quarantine), and Alec Kann (shoulder) can’t be considered for this encounter.

The Pick:New England Revolution to win (-133)

The New England Revolution has yet to win against Atlanta in their overall history, going 0-5-2 since 2017. The Revs have won three straight games at home and have lost only three of the previous ten matches in MLS. On the other hand, in their last ten away games in Major League Soccer, Atlanta United has registered only one win. Therefore, I expect New England to record their first-ever victory against Atlanta this weekend.

The Pick:Under 2.5 (+120)

A combined sum of 12 goals was shared by these two clubs in their previous six matchups, with three of them scored by the Revs and nine by the Five Stripes. New England has hit the back of the net ten times over their past six outings, while the tally of goals that they have conceded in that time amounts to 5. On the other side, Atlanta had a problem with efficiency in the course of their last six matches, having converted only eight times with an average of 1.33 goals per game. All indications are that we will not see many goals in this matchup, so I'll go with the Under here.
