Newcastle United vs. Tottenham Hotspur Prediction, 7/15/20

Still in the hunt for a spot in the top-six of the Premier League, 8th-placed Tottenham Hotspur is paying a visit to 13th-placed Newcastle United, who are unbeaten in six consecutive games on own turf. Kick-off - at 13:00 PM ET on Wednesday, July 15.

Newcastle Lose Second In Row

The current losing skid of Newcastle United extended to two fixtures after the team followed up last Wednesday’s 5-0 setback at Manchester City with a 2-1 defeat against Watford away at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Being the better team in the first 45 minutes, the Magpies got the score rolling through Dwight Gayle in the 23rd minute and almost got their second just before the break courtesy of Allan Saint-Maximin, but eventually got punished in the second half with two penalties. Safe from relegation, Newcastle sits 13th in the league with a W11 D10 L14 record.

With six league goals under his belt, English midfielder Jonjo Shelvey leads the Magpies in scoring. Goalie Martin Dubravka, meanwhile, sits at the top of the Premier League with 132 saves. He has posted 10 clean sheets in 35 contests this year and gives up a goal every 61 minutes on average. Newcastle have netted the 4th lowest quantity of snipes during the ongoing campaign (36) while delivering the 5th lowest amount of shots per game (10.3). The team is bottom of the league in ball possession (41.9%) and 16th in passing accuracy (75.0%).

Tottenham Triumph Over Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur extended their unbeaten run to three matches (W2 D1) following a 2-1 victory in their North London derby against Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. The Gunners controlled the ball 63% of the time, but Spurs led in shots (15-13), with defender Toby Alderweireld heading home the winner from Son Heung-min’s corner with nine minutes remaining after the South Korean forward tied the game at 1-1 just 70 seconds after Arsenal’s first-half opener. Tottenham have moved to the 8th place in the Premier League (W14 D10 L11), trailing the top-six by three points.

English striker Harry Kane tops Spurs’ scoring table with 13 league markers but has gone three games without a goal. Hugo Lloris, meanwhile, occupies the 15th place in Premier League’s goalkeeper chart with 69 saves. He has picked up five clean sheets in 18 appearances this season and allows a goal every 81 minutes of play. Tottenham have scored the 6th highest number of snipes this year (54), while taking the 10th highest quantity of shots per game (12.1). The team is 7th in both ball possession (52.0%) and passing accuracy (81.4%).

Prediction

Newcastle United have lost their last two outings. Still, both defeats have happened on the road, so the team is still riding a six-game unbeaten run on own turf (W2 D4) and will be heading into Wednesday’s clash on the back of some decent performances regardless of the end result. Tottenham have lost just one of their previous seven Premier League contests (W3 D3 L1), but have mostly performed well at home as well. Their travels, though, have brought in quite a different story, with Spurs having triumphed in just one of their last eight away outings in the league (W1 D4 L3). Having already beaten Spurs 1-0 in this season’s reverse fixture in London in August, expect the Magpies to use their potent home advantage to carve out at least a point.
