Optimism for return of NBA is growing

It's coming back! It's not coming back. The NBA season will wind up in Las Vegas or Orlando.

This is the new normal when it comes to sports returning. Pessimism turns to optimism and back to pessimism, almost on a daily basis. Sports fans and bettors are hoping it comes back shortly or at some point, but the leagues can only rely on states returning to normal, who rely on health experts.

A few days ago, the chances for the NBA returning appeared to be slim, based on some media reports and commissioner Adam Silver is wavering. A "Woj bomb" on Twitter (Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN) used to mean there's a big trade or free agent signing about to happen, but lately, it's been news concerning the rollercoaster of Silver's feelings towards the league coming back. Woj and The Athletic's Sham Charania have reported that Silver is looking at a 2-for-4 week timetable for a decision about whether to resume the season.

Silver and the board of governors met virtually on Tuesday and there was a sense of optimism that the league would return according to Wojnarowski.

There are still issues to deal with, especially coaches and staffers who are 65 or older or those who may be immunocompromised.

But players do run the league and when LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Steph Curry have a desire to resume play, there is a good chance of the NBA coming back.
