Sheffield United vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction, 7/8/20

Having ended an eight-game unbeaten run in the league with a defeat versus Arsenal, 6th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers will try to get back on track while visiting 9th-placed Sheffield United, who have gone without a loss for their past two fixtures. Kick-off - at 13:00 PM ET on Wednesday, July 8.

Sheffield United Tie At Burnley

The unbeaten run of Sheffield United extended to two contests (W1 D1) after the team from South Yorkshire followed up last Thursday’s 3-1 home victory against Tottenham Hotspur with a 1-1 draw versus Burnley away at Turf Moor on Sunday. In what was a pretty equal matchup, the hosts opened the scoring at the end of the first half before Blades defender John Egan equalized 10 minutes from time with his first-ever Premier League marker, now having found the back of the net in all four highest leagues of English soccer. Sheffield United are 9th in the standings (W12 D12 L9), trailing the top seven by a mere point.

French Forward Lys Mousset tops Blades’ scoring table with six league snipes for the year. Goalie Dean Henderson, meanwhile, sits 10th in the Premier League with 85 saves. He has registered 11 clean sheets in 31 appearances this season and gives up a goal every 103 minutes on average. Sheffield United have netted the 5th lowest amount of goals during the current campaign (34) while delivering the absolute lowest quantity of shots per game (9.6). The team is 16th in ball possession (45.0%) and 17th in passing accuracy (74.7%).

Wolves End Unbeaten Run

Wolverhampton Wanderers recorded their first defeat in their last nine Premier League fixtures (W5 D3 L1) after dropping a 2-0 home decision against Arsenal at Molineux Stadium on Saturday. The Wolves controlled the ball 52% of the time and outshot the visitors 10-8, but managed to deliver just a single attempt on target, with Adama Traore testing Gunners’ defense 17 seconds into the game. It was Wolverhampton’s first defeat by more than one goal since the 5-2 fiasco against Chelsea on Sep. 14. The team remains 6th in the league (W13 D13 L7), trailing 5th-placed Manchester United by three points.

Mexican striker Raul Jimenes leads the Wolves with 15 goals for the current Premier League campaign. Goalie Rui Patricio, meanwhile, resides 11th in the EPL with 83 saves. He has posted 11 clean sheets in 33 games this season and concedes a snipe every 83 minutes of play. Wolverhampton has buried the 8th highest number of goals during the rolling year (45) while taking the 8th highest quantity of shots per game (12.5). The team is 11th in ball possession (48.3%) and 10th in passing accuracy (79.2%).

Prediction

Sheffield United have gone on a two-game unbeaten run after following up their 3-1 home triumph over Tottenham Hotspur with a 1-1 draw at Burnley. Wolverhampton Wanderers, on the other hand, have just ended an eight-game unbeaten streak (W5 D3) with a 2-0 domestic defeat to Arsenal. Having said that, both teams are still very much in the same specter of quality, especially on the defensive side. This season’s reverse fixture between the two sides in Wolverhampton already finished with a 1-1 draw. And a similar outcome is definitely not out of the question here! Even more so after both sides sit at the very top of the Premier League in stalemates this season, with the Wolves (13 draws) and the Blades (12) being only matched by Arsenal (13) and Brighton & Hove Albion (12) in this category respectively.
