The UFC Announces its June 13 Fight Night Card

With NSAC blessing, UFC officials recently unveiled the promotion's latest Fight Night card. The event features top flyweight contender Jessica Eye and opponent Cynthia Calvillo. Back for the sixth time since May 9, the June 13 gala is the third to be held at Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Matchmakers put together a billing for next weekend which features veterans and upstarts as established names are lacking from the ten fight ledger. Though, cards like Fight Night: Eye vs. Calvillo generally produce new stars among busy divisions.

Headliner Eye rebounded after her brief, unsuccesful title challenge vs. Valentina Shevchenko by outpointing Viviane Araujo last December. At 15-7 the 33-year-old clung to UFC employment while losing five of six from 2014 through 2018. Eye's improbable contender run cemented her latter career viability. Tested against elite rivals, Eye poses the sternest competition yet for #10 ranked Calvillo.

A dedicated grappler, Calvillo, 32, moves up from straweight for her largest professional spotlight. While occupying fringe contender status at 115 lbs, the San Jose native has won two straight. Overall, Calvillo (8-1-1) is 5-1 vs. UFC opponents.

Eye vs. Calvillo is scheduled for five rounds.

The co-main is a do-over from Marvin Vettori and Karl Roberson's recently postponed encounter. Roberson pulled from that May 13 fight after weight cut difficulty. None too thrilled, Vettori confronted his middlweight rival in a hotel lobby as the two exchanged choice words following their second failed octagon meeting.

Concerning the legitimate heat between Roberson and Vettori, Dana White stated per ESPN:

"There are a lot of fights when guys talk smack, and then the fight sucks... that will not be the case with this fight.

Vettori is so fun to watch fight. This guy goes for it. He goes for the finish in every fight, and Karl Roberson is the same way. This is a fight that has potential for Fight of the Night or Performance of the Night."
