Top NFL Free Agents for 2023 - Running backs

The NFL regular season is over and the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl. Now is the time for teams to try and fill holes on their roster and for bettors to keep track of the major moves. There are a lot of questions about which players will be free agents or how many quarterbacks will be either franchise tagged, traded or both (Lamar Jackson). This is one of the best free agent running back classes in years.

Let’s take a look at the top unrestricted free agents available as of Feb. 16. Some players could be re-signed before 4pmET on Wednesday, March 15 when NFL free agency officially starts.

QB Current team Age

Saquon Barkley NY Giants 26

Barkley is arguably the best all-around back in the league right now, showing that he’s finally healthy and is a good receiver with 53 catches last season.

Josh Jacobs Las Vegas 25

One of the more underrated backs in the league, he had nearly 2,000 total yards from scrimmage and will make a lot of money this offseason. Not a great receiver or blocker.

Tony Pollard 26

He’s coming off ligament surgery on his ankle, but should be full strength before training camp. He’s one of the most explosive backs in the league and you would think Dallas would do everything they can do keep him.

Miles Sanders Philadelphia 26

Sanders had 11 TDs last season and 1,269 yards. But the Eagles have other backs and he’s not a great receiver.

Jamaal Williams Detroit 28

Williams had 17 touchdowns and showed that he could be a prime back. He split carries with D’Andre Swift, who isn’t going anywhere.

David Montgomery Chicago 26

Another quality back but he’s on a team where the best runner is the quarterback (Justin Fields). He also a very good receiver, who caught 34 passes last season.

Kareem Hunt Cleveland 28

Once you get closer to 30, it gets tougher for free-agent running backs to get big money. Hunt doesn’t deserve huge money, but he’s a solid number-one back who has going to get about 10-12 touches a game behind Nick Chubb. He ran for 1,327 yards in 2017 with Kansas City.

Damien Harris New England 26

Harris is a talented back but was banged up last season and Rhamondre Stevenson took over. So it’s likely his time to find another team after rushing just 106 times last season.

Devin Singletary Buffalo 26

Singletary is a solid back who can catch the ball out of the backfield. But he needs a bigger back to team with.

Dont’a Foreman Carolina 27

Foreman really exploded with Christian McCaffrey gone to the 49ers. He rushed for 914 yards but is not a threat in the passing game.
