Wolves Tie With Burnley

Wolverhampton Wanderers worsened their chances of finishing in the top-six of the Premier League this season after ending their meeting with Burnley on level 1-1 terms away at Turf Moor on Wednesday. Raul Jimenez got the scoring rolling with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game before right-back Matt Doherty handled the ball in the Wolves’ box, giving away a penalty deep into stoppage time. Wolverhampton has won just one of their last four league fixtures (W1 D1 L2) and currently sits 6th in the EPL (W14 D14 L8), just one point above 7th-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Mexican marksman Jimenez tops his team’s scoring table with 17 goals for the current campaign. Goalie Rui Patricio, meanwhile, resides 13th in England’s top division with 87 saves for the year. He has collected 12 clean sheets in 36 appearances this season and gives up a goal every 85 minutes on average. Wolverhampton has netted the 8th highest number of league goals this term (49) while registering the 8th highest quantity of shots per game (12.4). The team is 10th in both ball possession (48.8%) and passing accuracy (79.4%).

Palace Loses Sixth Straight

Crystal Palace extended their current losing skid to six fixtures after being beaten with a count of 2-0 by Manchester United at Selhurst Park on Thursday. The Eagles were denied a penalty just before the visitors took a 1-0 lead in first-half stoppage time and had a 55th-minute goal by Jordan Ayew disallowed by VAR for offside, with the Red Devils netting their second 23 minutes later. Crystal Palace remains winless in their last 16 Premier League home games against the big-six teams (D3 L13) and sit 14th in the standings (W11 D9 L16), safe from relegation.

Ghanaian forward Ayew leads the Eagles with nine league markers but has failed to score in six consecutive games. Goalie Vicente Guaita, meanwhile, sits 8th in the Premier League with 106 saves. He has recorded 10 clean sheets in 33 contests during the current campaign and concedes a strike every 76 minutes of play. Crystal Palace has buried the 2nd lowest amount of EPL goals this season (30) while delivering the 2nd lowest number of shots per game (9.9). The team is 13th in both ball possession (46.3%) and passing accuracy (76.3%).

Prediction

After a run of poor recent results, which saw the team win just one of its past four contests, losing on two occasions (W1 D1 L2), Wolverhampton Wanderers no longer rely on the Premier League to qualify for the next season’s Champions League. The Wolves can still do it by winning the Europa League in August. Still, finishing 6th is definitely the objective for Wolverhampton, especially with Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United and Burnley all also eying a top-six finish. The Wolves have won just one of their last six meetings with Crystal Palace in all competitions (W1 D1 L4), but will possess tons more motivation to succeed in this fixture than the Eagles, who have lost their past six EPL games and don’t really have anything left to play for this season, having already cemented a spot in England top-flight for the following year.
