The Triple Crown isn’t on the line this year. However, the 2024 Belmont Stakes drew Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, Preakness hero Seize the Grey, and several other top 3-year-olds. We’ll try to help you pad your horse racing betting accounts with this official Belmont betting guide!

2024 Belmont Stakes Odds

Post Horse Name Trainer Jockey Odds

#4 The Wine Steward Mike Maker Manny Franco 15-1
#5 Antiquarian Todd Pletcher John Velazquez 12-1
#6 Dornoch Danny Gargan Luis Saez 15-1
#7 Protective Todd Pletcher Tyler Gaffalione 20-1
#8 Honor Marie Whit Beckman Florent Geroux 12-1
#9 Sierra Leone Chad Brown Flavien Prat 9/5
#10 Mindframe Todd Pletcher Irad Ortiz, Jr. 7/2

Likely Belmont Stakes Favorites

Oddly, the Derby winner and Preakness winner are not among the top two Belmont Stakes betting choices. The 9/5 morning line favorite is #9 Sierra Leone, who was second in the Derby. He was part of a three-horse photo finish that also included Forever Young, who he exchanged bumps with throughout the stretch.

#10 Mindframe, meanwhile, is the 7/2 second choice. He’s 2-for-2 with a pair of runaway victories against far lesser competition. The Belmont Stakes, in fact, represents his first run against stakes-caliber foes. The connections here are familiar ones; Mindframe is trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, and he’ll be ridden by top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.

#3 Mystik Dan is the 5-1 third choice. After pulling off an 18-1 upset in Kentucky, he chased #1 Seize the Grey in the Preakness. That one is 8-1, and every other runner in the field is 10-1 or higher.

2024 Belmont Stakes Selections

I’m backing Mystik Dan on top. He’s a consistent sort that can make his own trip and isn’t reliant on any one scenario developing. If the pace is slow, he can contest it. If it’s fast, he can sit back and pounce turning for home. He generally runs the same race every time out, and that type of effort gives him a big chance.

Sierra Leone’s best race could also win this. However, he’s made his own trouble quite a bit lately. One can argue that cost him the Kentucky Derby, and while Brown has made several significant changes, I simply can’t back a horse that will be a short price on top when that runner has some issues to overcome.

Behind those two, I’ll go with a price. #8 Honor Marie was a “buzz horse” of sorts coming into the Kentucky Derby, but he lost that race with terrible luck out of the starting gate. He figures to get a pace to run at, and if you liked him at 14-1 five weeks ago, you’ll get a similar price here against a much smaller field that won’t present as many obstacles.

  • 1st: #3 Mystik Dan
  • 2nd: #9 Sierra Leone
  • 3rd: #8 Honor Marie
