Coaching Changes on Both Sides
Both Troy and Duke have been hit with losses in the transfer portal, but the Blue Devils have been hit harder. Duke has lost quarterback Riley Leonard to Notre Dame and at least 10 other players overall. The Blue Devils’ previous head coach, Mike Elko, has taken the head coaching job at Texas A&M. Former Penn State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has been hired as the new head coach for the Blue Devils, but Trooper Taylor will serve as the interim for the Birmingham Bowl.
Troy will also have an interim head coach in this game. Former West Virginia offensive coordinator Gerad Parker will lead the Trojans in the bowl game. Jon Sumrall, who led the program for the last two seasons, has taken the head coaching job at Tulane.
