Iowa vs South Carolina Prediction – Women’s College Basketball Title Game Preview

The Women’s College Basketball season comes to a close on Sunday afternoon with a highly compelling National Title game featuring the Iowa Hawkeyes and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

South Carolina survived a tense first half on Friday night only to blow out an upstart NC State team down the stretch with a dazzling second-half performance that showcased why they are undefeated.

Iowa overcame a sluggish start and a relentless UConn defense to sneak out a narrow victory and clinch their second consecutive trip to the Title game. They will hope for a better result this time around.

Iowa vs South Carolina Preview

It is fair to say that Iowa vs South Carolina will feature the two best teams in Women’s College Basketball this season.

South Carolina has been head and shoulders above the rest of the field with another dominating regular season. They survived a scare in the SEC Title game but have otherwise coasted throughout the postseason, rolling to five consecutive armchair wins in the Tournament.

It hasn’t quite been as smooth sailing for Iowa, who survived a scare from West Virginia in the round of 32, overcame a first-half punch against LSU, and weathered a savvy UConn squad to advance to the Title game.

These squads met in the Final Four last year in a memorable affair. Iowa pulled off a dramatic upset as 11-point underdogs led by the heroics of Caitlin Clark. If Iowa is going to replicate this feat again on Sunday, they will likely need a better shooting display than we saw on Friday night from Clark, who was just 3/11 from beyond the arc.

Size will be a factor in this one, as it remains to be seen how an undersized Hawkeye squad will be able to compete with Kamilla Cardoso in the post and on the boards.

Iowa vs. South Carolina Prediction

Both teams belong in this game and have exhibited prolific offensive capabilities throughout the season.

South Carolina has been the more consistent squad with a combination of overwhelming size and athleticism. That being said, Clark’s elite scoring and passing ability make it impossible to count the Hawkeyes out.

Iowa’s supporting case will be crucial in keeping them competitive in this game. Hannah Stuelke stepped up Friday night. Can she do it again on Sunday? Kate Martin and Sydney Affolter will also both need to bring it if Iowa is to match the firepower of the likes of Raven Johnson, Te-Hina PaoPao, and MiLaysia Fulwiley.

Fading South Carolina is a terrifying prospect, but something about this game screams that it will come down to the final minutes. Take the generational talent in Clark and her strong supporting cast to hold their own.

Prediction: Iowa +6.5
