A Fascinating pitching duel
With neither of the two teams firing on all cylinders recently the most interesting clash for Thursday’s game concerns the men on the mound.
Braves starter Reynaldo Lopez has made a wildly successful transition from the bullpen since signing and at 1.75 currently ranks second in the NL ERA rankings.
His opponent Trevor Williams has also been strong with an ERA of 2.29 (he is short three innings of qualifying) and having given up more than one run in just three of his 10 starts in 2024.
On the batting side, Atlanta will be hoping to bounce back quickly from the devastating loss of reigning MVP Ronald Acuña Jr for the season (torn ACL), though the return of Sean Murphy and Austin Riley this week should bolster their lineup.
Washington will be hoping for a big game from former Brave Eddie Rosario, who has returned a strong May for the Nationals after struggling to start the season and smashed a first-inning RBI double to set in motion an 8-4 victory in Monday’s series curtain-raiser.
