The Western Conference Finals continue on Thursday night with the second game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Story So Far
Minnesota began the Playoffs in dominant fashion. The Phoenix Suns were dispatched in a four-game sweep, with the Timberwolves’ ace shooting guard Anthony Edwards returning 36 and 40 points in the last two games to seal victory.
The Semifinals, though, were a whole different story. The Timberwolves faced reigning NBA champions Denver and quickly saw a two-game lead evaporate to trail 3-2 in the series going into the final stretch.
Then, having leveled the series, Minnesota trailed by 20 points in Denver early in the third quarter of the deciding game and looked to be heading out of the Playoffs. But they fought back to win 98-90, the biggest game 7 comeback in 25 years, and advance to the Conference finals.
Dallas, meanwhile, needed six games to overcome the LA Clippers in round one and then faced a huge challenge in the shape of the Oklahoma City Thunder, the West’s number one seed. But the Mavericks stayed in top form to also beat the Thunder in six, booking their clash with Minnesota. Luka Doncic was key to victory, recording three straight consecutive triple-doubles in the semifinals; his 29 points in game six were particularly important as Dallas roared back to win 117-116 having trailed by 17 at halftime.
