The rules of NFL survivor leagues
Rules vary from one league to another, but traditionally, the basic ones go something like this:
- Each player picks one team to win its game every week.
- Once you use a team, you cannot use them again for the rest of the season.
- If your team loses, you’re done for the year.
While many leagues allow players to pick “straight-up,” some go a step further and force players to pick against a point spread. Additionally, “two-strike” pools give players a lifeline after an initial losing selection.
Whatever league you’re in, make sure you read the rules carefully. Specifically, you’ll want to see when picks lock each week. You don’t want to be the person who loses because they missed a chance to make a pick!
Who offers NFL survivor leagues?
Many outlets are offering these leagues, especially after the attention drawn to the format by the Circa Survivor Pro Football Contest, which offers a guaranteed first-place prize of $10 million. Given that, it’s not surprising to see websites like ESPN and Yahoo, longtime stalwarts in the fantasy scene, offer contests, too.
In addition, many sportsbooks have offered NFL survivor leagues over the past few years. This includes FanDuel Sportsbook, which is back with a free-to-play contest that offers a $100,000 first-place prize. In a menu of unique sportsbook bonuses, that stands out.
