Dallas Stars at Edmonton Oilers: The Road to the Finals
The Dallas Stars are making a strong case for their first Stanley Cup triumph since 1999. After finishing top of the fiercely competitive Central Division in the regular season with 52 wins Dallas overcame defending champions Las Vegas in the first round of the playoffs, setting up a clash with the Colorado Avalanche.
Despite dropping the first match at home Dallas fought back to win three of the next four, setting up a potential clincher in Game Six at the Ball Arena. The Denver crowd was then silenced in a thrilling 2nd OT victory, with Matt Duchene hitting the decisive goal to make it 2-1 to the visitors and seal their place in the Conference finals.
Edmonton’s path to the finals was just as nail-biting. After finishing second to Vancouver in the Pacific Division the Oilers breezed past Los Angeles 4-1 in the first playoff, which set up a meeting with their Canadian rivals.
The Canucks took the series lead no fewer than three times, but on each occasion were pegged back level. Finally, in Monday’s Game 7, Edmonton withstood a late Canuck rally from three goals down to win 3-2 and advance to the next round.
The sportsbooks believe that Edmonton will also start this series as outsiders. Dallas is rated a –125 favorite to win the series, with their opponent back at +105. Odds are similar too for Thursday’s game: the Stars are backed at –128 with FanDuel while the Oilers trail at +110.
