Super Bowl LVIII Matchup

The Kansas City Chiefs are underdogs against the San Francisco 49ers. They beat them 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV after coming from behind in the fourth quarter. Many believe the Chiefs will be considered a true dynasty if they can equal the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers, the 1990s Dallas Cowboys, and Tom Brady’s New England Patriots (who did it twice) with their third championship in five years.

The Chiefs’ offense was inconsistent during the regular season compared to what they’ve achieved over the past several seasons. However, Patrick Mahomes is proving why he’s the best quarterback in the NFL. He’s a sure bet to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Kansas City were underdogs in the Divisional Round and the AFC Championship. Mahomes has completed 68% of his passes with four TDs and no interceptions in the postseason.

The 49ers had a couple of bad breaks that have kept them from earning the dynasty label. They gave up a ten-point lead against the Chiefs in their last Super Bowl matchup. They did the same in the 2021 NFC Championship against the LA Rams after Jaquiski Tartt dropped a punt return and the offense later stalled. They also had some bad luck in the 2022 NFC Championship against the Philadelphia Eagles after Brock Purdy went down in the first quarter.

Much of the 49ers success on offense this season came from TE George Kittle and WR Deebo Samuel. Kittle is listed as questionable after leaving the game against the Detroit Broncos with just two receptions. However, he will undoubtedly play in the big game. Samuel wasn’t listed on this week’s injury report after hurting his shoulder in the Divisional Round. He should be ready on Sunday.
